... the main summer residence of the Habsburg rulers, located in Hietzing, Vienna.

The name Schönbrunn (meaning “beautiful spring”) has its roots in an artesian well from which water was consumed by the court.

The 1,441-room Rococo palace is one of the most important architectural, cultural, and historic monuments in the country.

The history of the palace and its vast gardens spans over 300 years, reflecting the changing tastes, interests, and aspirations of successive Habsburg monarchs.

You can see the River Wien here, whose source is in the Vienna Woods. This is a type of river that, as harmless as it looks in normal circumstances, can cause flood disasters in urban areas during heavy rainfall. So the fortification in which it was embedded about 120 years ago had its good reasons. At the same time, a section of Wiener Stadtbahn was built here, which is now used by underground line 4. The whole thing was planned by the Art Nouveau architect Otto Wagner.

You can also see a U4 train going towards Hütteldorf, from where you can take pleasant walks in the Vienna Woods. The building with the tower is the administrative building for the 13th and 14th districts. The river Wien is the border between the 13th district Hietzing on the left and the 14th district Penzing on the right.

Neptune Fountain, with Gloriette in the background

The garden axis points towards a 60-metre-high (200 ft) hill, which since 1775 has been crowned by the Gloriette structure.

Maria Theresa decided the Gloriette should be designed to glorify Habsburg power and the Just War (a war that would be carried out of "necessity" and lead to peace), and thereby ordered the builders to recycle "otherwise useless stone" which was left from the near demolition of Schloss Neugebäude.

It has been a major tourist attraction since the mid-1950s.[

The production period of this famous car was from 1934 to 1957. It was conceived by the constructor André Lefèbvre and the designer Flaminio Bertoni, who also created the successor model, the no less famous Citroën DS (production period 1955 - 1975).

Predatory sea fish, which themselves are very tasty. They should not look so grumpy, because where they are, namely in an aquarium at the Schönbrunn Zoo in Vienna, they have a life expectancy of up to thirty years, while their life expectancy in the fishing grounds of the world's oceans is minimal.

The Schönbrunn Palace gardens are anew devoid of people ....

The source of the river Wien is in the Vienna woods. This is a type of river that, as harmless as it looks in normal circumstances, can cause flood disasters in urban areas during heavy rainfall.

"The Wien is subject to huge variations in flow. In its headwaters in the Vienna Woods, the soil is underlain by sandstone. Because of this, during heavy rain the soil quickly saturates, resulting in substantial runoff. Thus, the flow of the Wien can quickly increase from a creek-like 200 litres per second (7.1 cu ft/s) to 450,000 litres per second (16,000 cu ft/s) in the heaviest rains or during the spring snowmelt in the Vienna Woods, a ratio of over 1:2000."*

The blackbuck is an antelope native to India and Nepal. Male adults are dark brown to black on the back and the outside of the legs, while the rest is white, hence the name of the species. Females and juveniles, on the other hand, are tan and white. The helically coiled horns are only worn by males.

You can see males and females in this herd, but obviously not a single male adult.

Palefin unicornfishes belong to the family of surgeonfishes (Acanthuridae), which "have scalpel-like modified scales, one or more on either side of the peduncle of the tail. The spines are dangerously sharp and may seriously injure anyone who carelessly handles such a fish." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acanthuridae

For this reason, it's also better not to make fun of their long noses;-)

"The large eyes of Eurasian thick-knees reveal that these birds are active during twilight and at night. During the day they typically lie flat on the ground or stand motionless - well camouflaged by their cryptic plumage coloration. When threatened they tend to duck down and retreat slowly or escape at full speed." (Information board in the zoo)

"The Eurasian stone curlew occurs throughout Europe, north Africa and southwestern Asia. It is a summer migrant in the more temperate European and Asian parts of its range, wintering in Africa. [...] Food consists of insects and other small invertebrates, and occasionally small reptiles, frogs and rodents." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurasian_stone-curlew

The Roman Catholic parish church of Breitensee is consecrated to Saint Laurentius. Breitensee is a subdistrict of Hietzing, Vienna's 14th district.

The Breitensee parish church was built in the neo-Gothic style from 1896 to 1898 according to plans by the Breitensee master builder Ludwig Zatzka and consecrated on 8 October 1898 in the presence of Emperor Franz Joseph I.
