Sunday, July 3, 2016 â NASHVILLE, Tenn. â Almost a thousand people attended the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy this morning that began the 43rd Biennial Clergy-Laity Congress of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.

The Orthros service and Hierarchical Concelebration of the Divine Liturgy were held in the Grand Ole Opry House.

His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios Geron of America presided over the Divine Liturgy concelebrating with all the Metropolitans of the Holy Eparchial Synod of the Archdiocese. Taking part in the Liturgy were His Eminence Metropolitan Iakovos of Chicago, His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios of Boston, His Eminence Metropolitan Isaiah of Denver, His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios of Atlanta, His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas of Detroit (the host Metropolitan of this yearâ s Congress), His Eminence Metropolitan Savas of Pittsburgh, His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos of San Francisco, and His Eminence Metropolitan Evangelos of New Jersey.

In the year 1753, at the request of the Brotherhood of Clerics, the Italian architect Nicolau Nasoni presented the project for a bell tower, and in 1754 they would start the works of what would become the most beautiful Tower, dominating the entire urban landscape of Porto. In July 1763, with the placing of the iron cross on the top, and the image of St. Paul in the niche above the door, its construction was finished.

ConnectiCITY:

A transit oriented Nodal development for connecting Glasgow

The project investigates transportation and urban design issues for Glasgow and tries to explore the critical relationship between the two for the development of a more sustainable urban form. Glasgow faces the problems of increasing car dependence and a drop in the share of transit ridership; this is leading to social segregation, fading culture, reduced public participation in urban life, losses to local businesses, encroachment on farmlands for housing, pollution and other environmental issues. The cause of these problems appears to originate from just quality of public transport, however other more complex factors like deteriorating urban characteristics and suburban sprawl also contribute to this problem.

The project proposes to encourage high density mixed use development within walking distance of a well organised multi-modal transit network. The Glasgow City Council has recognised the value of such thinking through the development of the hierarchically organised bus network in the proposed streamline bus routes project. This kind of development has been termed “nodal development” and consists of interconnected constellation of “nodes” around the city-centre. The proposal aims to revitalise inner urban areas socially, culturally and financially by reinforcing the withering urban characteristics. Higher densities promote development of liveable communities, increases the range of activities and services that can be supported in local neighbourhood, reduces the average travel distances and generate ridership to make transit operations feasible. Mixed land use helps to generate diversity and encourages public contact, interaction and street life. A good mix of uses within walking distance tends to provide people access to a full range of activities without having to get into an automobile. Proximity to multiple transit modes makes their uses more amenable and reduces car trips. Quality urban design of pedestrian friendly streets and public spaces can further augment urbanity; inducing public participation and active street life. These urban characters share mutual relationships and flourish when all are present at once.

Sunday, July 3, 2016 â NASHVILLE, Tenn. â Almost a thousand people attended the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy this morning that began the 43rd Biennial Clergy-Laity Congress of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.

The Orthros service and Hierarchical Concelebration of the Divine Liturgy were held in the Grand Ole Opry House.

The white cross marking is created by collections of guanine under the spider’s cuticle. Rarely, it may be lacking entirely.

Underside of abdomen with central black area framed by pale ‘L’-shaped brackets (but lots of other orbweavers have similar ventral markings, as well).

This species is one of the most well-known spiders in the whole world, and has been the subject of numerous scientific research papers.

It was elected as the “European Spider of the Year” in 2010.

In 1952, it was the star of a short film documentary called “Epeira Diadema” by Italian director Alberto Ancilotto. It was nominated for an Oscar in 1953.

Spider may “bounce” up and down in the middle of its web if it feels threatened.

Egg sacs roughly 20mm in diameter, made of fluffy yellowish-orange silk. Usually stuck in rolled up leaves, under eaves of buildings, within woodpiles, or other protected places, but not hung in the web itself. May contain 100-800 yellow eggs.

Araneus diadematus (Cross Orb-weaver) has been sighted in the following countries: Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Greece, Ireland, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States.
