This is the only species of wild hare or rabbit in Sri Lanka. Surprisingly, it still holds out on the outskirts of Colombo. Outside the protected areas it is nocturnal due to poaching and threats from domestic dogs and cats.

The super vet is a mythical creature that has always managed to elude photographers for ages. For the ancient pet owners the the super vet was such a sacred being that its name was not uttered in vain. The super vet have been called by many nicknames one is ”Mike”.
After spending a night in a hideout at a secret location with a super long tele 35/2.8 lens payed off. All of a sudden he appeared doing his morning hygiene before going into surgery. I got lucky and got one sharp image of the shy being.

Linus loves ot be outdoors and he usually even holds on when it's far too hot for his taste. He then takes refuge in his hideouts. One is in a cat house in the garden which is so well hidden that you can't take any photos of him there, the other is under a fir tree where he is always in the shade. I think he may also like the fact that he is almost invisible there as his fur colour blends in very well with the stone tiles of the path.
This photo was taken two days ago. Today it's cooler, no need for the hideout.

Here's the story on this image:
This is a composite of four images from the same series as a previous post (“The Hideout”). I thought they were too similar to post separately, but good enough that I wanted to do something with them. I had the idea for a four or five panel composite, but as I was working on that, I came up with this idea. It is a four-panel composite, but each panel is cropped narrowly with every other panel mirrored horizontally. An unusual looking wildlife image - I think it works, but probably not to the taste of wildlife photography purists.
It may be just me, but I see a bit of "I could sure use a break" in her eyes. This kit has three sibs.

I was walking with my dog cross country in a remote area when I stepped on the piece of plywood that covered this entrance. It was well-camouflaged and covered with dirt but I happened to step on it and noticed the hollow sound. Then I saw the edge of the plywood and raised it to find this hideout. Inside was a wood stove (The chimney was covered in brush), a platform for sleeping and a small supply of firewood. I would guess the builder was an outlaw or a paranoid survivalist. It appeared to be several years old. I took this shot in 2004 but have never returned to the spot.
