This once proud fortress, was in its heyday the largest castle in all of Eastern Bavaria. Through mismanagement it is now only a shadow of itself.
However, now the help of archaeologists and a non-profit association will not only get the castle, but partially rebuilt.

In 961 Ani became the capital of Armenia under Bagratyd. The heyday was in time reign of Gagik I, at the beginning of the 11th century. It was established at that time a lot of valuable buildings and the city had a population of about 100 thousand inhabitants. In 1319 years it destroyed earthquake. The ruins of Ani are the biggest and the greatest testimony of the Armenian culture, religion and the power of the past. In 1915 you could still see the remains of 43 churches, then their number gradually decreased.
It is now a "ghost town" and in 2016 was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Sailing boats and other boats in front of the Fraueninsel in the Chiemsee.
This is the second largest of the three islands in the Chiemsee lake and along with its sister island Herreninsel one of the main attractions at this lake.
Most important on this island is the monastery, founded in in 782 by Tassilo III, Duke of Bavaria. Its heyday was from the 11th to 15th centuries.
The main church building is from the 11th century, from 1468 bto 1476 a rib vault was built in, from 1688 to 1702 the baroque altars were built.

This picture (showing the 24th to the 40th floors) begins a series of the iconic Guardian Building in downtown Detroit, Michigan. It was built during the heyday of Detroit, completed in early 1929. Unfortunately, a world-wide economic disaster, the "Great Depression" began at the end of 1929.
The Guardian Building was a standout, built of an orange brick, with ornamental tile highlights amid a sea of gray limestone and marble skyscrapers. It was topped with a crown of lights that was spectacular at night. Its interior, in Aztec-Art Deco, that was so exceptionally striking, will be shown in upcoming pictures.
Clouds and scattered showers made perfect conditions for midges to hatch here at Lake Meyer today and the cedar waxwings had a heyday.
Arch of a brick bridge (18th century). Autumn nature. The territory of the museum-estate "Arkhangelskoye", in the city of Krasnogorsk, Moscow region.
Over the past centuries, much has changed in the appearance of the park - the trees have risen high and grown, having lost their decorative appearance. Currently, restoration work is underway in the State Museum-Estate "Arkhangelskoye", which aim to recreate this part of the territory during the heyday of the estate - in the 1820-1830s.
On the right, one of the few undamaged town houses in Nuremberg's heyday. The only 15th-century artists' house that has survived in Northern Europe. From 1509 Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528), Germany's most famous painter, lived and worked here.
Came across this abandoned Sinclair oil display where a service station once stood, makes you think about how things were done back in its heyday. Gas price on the pump is 39 cents.
The town of Luce is long gone and forgotten all that remains is this abandoned church built in 1871, I was told the town disappeared in 1914, wanted to see what it looked like inside and how service was done back in its heyday. Not a fan of the graffiti. There is a sign posted “ No Trespassing “ bummer.
The sculpture, Waiting, is so called because it shows a dock horse waiting to set off on its next journey.
Created by equine sculptor Judy Boyt, the monument commemorates the city’s faithful carters and their horses. They played a vital role in carrying provisions from the docks to warehouses and shops during Liverpool’s heyday as a commercial port.
I like to stop by the abandoned schoolhouse of Mayville, the foundation is getting worse as age is taking its toll, tried to sneak a peak inside, no luck, built in 1910 closed in the 1960’s, makes you wonder how the classes where back in its heyday
Built in 1840 this beautiful lighthouse has some of the most interesting artifacts when you tour inside, the fireplace impressed me because of how big it was and the clothes the lighthouse keeper and family wore are definitely a lot different
than today, snowshoes and ice skates where used back in its heyday during the winter and due to the amount of snow.
The Zsolnay porcelain factory in Pécs is a prominent player in the history of Hungarian industry, once renowned abroad. Its heyday came at the turn of the century, when its decorative objects and porcelain sets were awarded at world exhibitions, partly thanks to the eosin it developed itself. Teréz Zsolnay and Julia Zsolnay, in contrast to the spirit of the times, were actively involved in the factory's activities, especially in the design of new motifs. Their designs include Hungarian, Persian, Turkish and lotus designs.

It wouldn't be the first time!
Pure raw development, but it was quite an effort, the lens delivers extremely contrastless, flat images.

In Russia, more than 2.5 million small rivers are registered. The names of some of them are familiar only to hydrologists and residents of nearby settlements. The Sinichka River of the Krasnogorsk District of the Moscow Region is also classified as little known.
The length of the Sinichka River is 15 km, the maximum depth is about 1.5 meters. Mixed food - snow and rain. The flow velocity is about 0.5 m / s. The coastline is surrounded by forest. Dam No. 4, on which the beach area was subsequently equipped, was erected in the 60s by employees of the Krasnogorsk Optical and Mechanical Plant. The waterworks was organized by Komsomol members at their own expense. Entrance to the beach in the area of dam No. 4 on the Sinichka River is free and open to all comers.
The heyday of the beach season on the river fell at the peak of 2011-2014. The surrounding area was landscaped with everything necessary for a comfortable summer vacation.
Currently, the territory of the city beach on the Sinichka River is abandoned.
Zons on the Rhine in North Rhine-Westphalia looks back on a long and eventful history. Archaeologists assume that Zons already existed in the 7th century. However, Zons experienced its heyday in the Middle Ages. In 1373 Zons received its town charter and flourished. Many of the buildings erected in the Middle Ages and in the following centuries are fortunately still well preserved today. This makes Zons a lively excursion into the past. Here you can really still feel the Middle Ages.
Now a historical marker, this pink schoolhouse was built in 1854, nobody knows why it was painted pink, it’s the same color today as it was back in its heyday, most say because it’s location was on back roads and it was the only was you could find it.
“Yemeni” is Ottoman style hand made shoe. The researcher and writer Aytekin Kuş claims the "Yemeni" is a very healthy shoe. "It is covered with goat skin and all the stitches are done by hand. 'Yemeni' itself is a witness of history, and the Yemeniciler Bazaar has an important place in the culture of Safranbolu."
With its heyday long behind it, the Yemeniciler Ottoman Bazaar in the district, which once featured 48 shops that made "Yemeni" (Ottoman style shoes) for the Ottoman army, seems like a distant memory, since all the craftsmen have closed their shops, except one. Now, Erhan Başkaya is the only craftsman in the bazaar who is still producing "Yemeni" and since there is no other craftsman left in the bazaar, he teaches his craft to his son Taha.

Kuznetsky Most is one of the most beautiful pedestrian streets in the historical center of Moscow.
The street got its modern - and at the same time historical - name thanks to the Kuznetsky Bridge across the Neglinnaya River. Today, Kuznetsky Most Street attracts citizens with its high-quality landscaping, an abundance of architectural monuments and an unusual relief: due to the significant difference in heights between Petrovka and Rozhdestvenka, the city landscape looks especially picturesque.
Kuznetskaya Sloboda on the high bank of the Neglinnaya River - Neglinnaya Upper - appeared in the 12th century, but its heyday came only at the end of the 15th, when the Cannon Yard was built in the vicinity, and the Moscow prince Ivan III ordered to settle in it blacksmiths and grooms who served new production. At the turn of the 15th-16th centuries, Novgorod and Pskov were annexed to the Moscow principality, and craftsmen of various professions from these cities were moved to the Neglinny Upper.
In 1737, the street burned out during the Trinity fire, but rather quickly new buildings were built on it, in which foreign shops began to be located. Gradually, the street turned into the abode of foreign trade: the French showed particular zeal, opening fashion and haberdashery shops here, thanks to which Kuznetsky Most became the main shopping street in Moscow. During World War II and the fire of 1812, it practically did not suffer from the fire, since the French guard took over the protection of the business of compatriots. After the war, trade flourished again, and many fashionable shops were opened on it (almost all of them were foreign, most of them were French). The abundance of foreign shops made Kuznetsky Most the most fashionable and aristocratic street in Moscow, which it remained until the 1917 Revolution.
During the Soviet era, the street lost part of the historical buildings, many buildings were rebuilt, and the street gradually took on a modern look.
After the reconstruction carried out in 2012, the Kuznetsky Most section from Bolshaya Dmitrovka to Rozhdestvenka became pedestrian.
Today Kuznetsky Most Street is a well-maintained pedestrian zone, where city holidays and festivals are often held.
Despite the losses of the Soviet years, a large number of architectural monuments have been preserved on it: tenement houses, partially preserved city estates and passages. Among them are famous Moscow sights: the building of the Moscow International Trade Bank, Khomyakov's trading house and others.

The double-headed eagle has nothing to do with Russia or the Byzantine Empire; rather it was a symbol of the Habsburg dynasty which ruled Mexico and the entire Spanish Empire during its heyday.
The Aga Khan Mausoleum is the tomb of Sultan Mahommed Shah the Aga Khan III and is located in the Egyptian city of Aswan. Shortly before his death, the Aga Khan chose a location on the west bank of the Nile as his final resting place. The location was highly symbolic, centuries before the ancestors of the Aga Khan, had founded the Fatimid dynasty, with its capital in Cairo. The Fatimid represented one of the heydays of Muslim culture, who were patrons of the arts, architecture, literature, pluralism, and scientific endeavors, fields that were equally cherished by the Aga Khan.

The Sumela Monastery, which stands on the foot of a steep cliff facing the Altındere Valley in the region of Maçka in Trabzon Province, Turkey, is popularly known as “Meyem Ana” (The Virgin Mary). The building complex is nearly 300 meters high and was built following the tradition of monasteries that were located outside the cities in forests near cave and source of water. The elevation of the Monastery is about 1350 meters.
The Monastery, founded in honor of the Virgin Mary, took the name of “Sumela” which derives from “Melas,” meaning black. Although it is thought that it has taken this name from the mountains, the Karadağlar (Black Mountains), on which it stands, it could also be associated with the black color of the icon of the Virgin Mary.
According to tradition, the Monastery was founded by two priests called Barnabas and Sophronius who came from Athens during the reign of the Emperor Theodousius I (AD 375 - 395). Then, in the 6th century, it was restored by the General Belisarius at the behest the Emperor Justinian who wanted it to be enlarged and restored.
The Monastery reached its final, present form in the 13th century. It gained importance during the reign of Alexios III (1349 - 1390) of the Comnenian Empire of Trabzon, which had been established in 1204. Its income was assured from imperial funds. During the time of Manuel III, son of Alexios III, and the reigns of later princes, Sumela gained further wealth from new imperial grants.
During the 18th century, many parts of the Monastery were restored and the walls were decorated with frescoes. In the 19th century, the Monastery took on an impressive appearance with the addition of larger buildings. This was the Monastery’s heyday and it attracted many foreign travelers who mentioned it in their writings.
The large building with a balcony on the front part of the cliff was used for the monks’ cells and as a guesthouse, it dates to 1860.

The history of Alden Biesen begins in 1220, when the German Knighthood established the Land Commandery. This Order was divided into 12 bars or provinces. Alden Biesen grew into the headquarters of the Balies Biesen, which itself consisted of 12 subordinate command lines. The showpiece, Alden Biesen, was the property of the land commander. The castle domain had its heyday between the 16th and 18th centuries. The Land Commandery then grew into the luxury residence as we know it today.
At the end of the 18th century the French Revolution put an end to this, because the German Order was driven out. The castle complex was sold publicly. When Guillaume Claes bought the domain, it was the beginning of two centuries of private ownership and decline. After the fire of 1971, the Belgian state bought Alden Biesen, and today the Land Commandery is an international cultural center of the Flemish Government.

Long ago, Bisbee, Arizona, was the town where copper and silver mines were in full swing. Today, Bisbee celebrates its rich historical heritage while also being a magnet for tourists. This quirky mining town is an enclave for artists with its eccentric charm and picturesque mountainside perch.
Bisbee, Arizona was named in honor of Judge DeWitt Bisbee, who was one of the financial backers of the adjacent Copper Queen Mine. Bisbee was discovered in 1880 to be a copper, gold, and silver mining town, then quickly became one of the popular towns for turquoise mining. Bisbee turquoise was originally discovered in the 1950’s while workers were open pit mining for copper. The Bisbee turquoise mine is one of the few most famous turquoise mines in Arizona.
Bisbee is known as the “Queen of the Copper Mines” because during its mining heyday, it produced nearly 25 percent of the world's copper. Due to the demand of copper, Bisbee was once the largest city in the Southwest between Saint Louis and San Francisco.

Skagway, Alaska is the northernmost point in Alaska’s Inside Passage, at the far end of Lynn Canal. In its heyday, Skagway was the boomtown gateway to the Trail of ’98 and the Klondike gold fields. The population has dwindled from 20,000 feverish gold seekers to about 1000 year-round citizens.
These days around a million torists a year visit Skagway, many of them on cruise ships. The day I visited three cruise ships were in port. Mine was the last to leave. This shot taken from the stern as two Princess cruise liners headed out into Lynn Canal.

The entrance in to the castle of Bollerup, in southern Sweden. The castle has a long, and rather complex, building history - the place was first mentioned in the middle of the 12th century. This building is not that old, but it is a product of merging a few buildings into one, and parts of may well date to the 14th century at least. But its heydays were definitely in the middle of the 15th century when it got its current looks, complete with a mixture of Late Gothic and early Renaissance elements, and some mural paintings.
But later on the castle fared worse, at one time it was burnt in a local uprising; it spent some time without a roof (which is really bad for buildings) and later on as a grain storage (which is probably how the building still managed to survive into times when the interest for historic buildings became more wide spread). It was restored to its current state in the 1940s - and now it is a school there, focusing on farming and horse management.

Uplistsikhe Cave Town-Fortress is situated on a rocky massif in 15 km eastwards to town Gori on the left bank of the river Mtkvari. The fortress is mentioned in chronicles from earliest times. Its history begins in the I-II millennium B.C. Uplistsikhe was an important religious, political and cultural centre in the Hellenistic and the late Antique periods (IV c. B.C. - IV c. A.D.). The town was in its heyday as far back as the 9th - 11th centuries. In 13th century, it was ravaged by Mongols.
Living quarters and premises for communal purposes occupy a cliff territory of almost 8 hectares and are connected by footways. The majority of the caves are devoid of any decorations. The central ensemble, a big hall with coffered tunnel-vaulted ceiling, and the palace complex, is the most interesting one architecturally. The natural rock easily lent itself to various kinds of treatment, making it possible to create complex decorative compositions. The ribbed ceiling with an aperture, a smoke outlet which also admitted light, was supported by two columns carved from the living rock; the hall had niches-loggias on three sides. Next to this hall, a three-nave basilica was hewn from rock in the second half of the 6th century, and to the east of it, a three-church basilica of brick was built in the 9th - 10th centuries. The cave complexes dating to high medieval times usually included a number of small hall-churches beside the dwellings.
Archaeological excavations have revealed extraordinary artefacts of different epochs: beautiful golden, silver and bronze jewellery, magnificent samples of ceramics and sculptures.

The vessel, built in 1975, spent its heyday trawling the North Sea for mackerel and herring. Latterly, MV Dayspring had been used as a houseboat berthed at Camusnagaul Bay.
Although now worse for wear, far from its days trawling the North Sea for mackerel and herring, the charm of this once commanding fishing boat is not all lost.
Resting idly on the shingle beach overlooking Loch Linnhe, Dayspring has taken up permanent residency on the Kilmallie shoreline, listing as if reclined, admiring the view.
We spend a brief moment doing likewise, marvelling at the vista across the loch towards Fort William and the majestic Nevis mountain range, before clumsily navigating the rocky foreshore towards the beached trawler.
Better known among locals as the ‘Corpach Wreck’, Dayspring has become an iconic landmark in Lochaber, with photographers from all over the world traipsing along the beach, tripod in hand, each day to capture a dramatic shot.
It has remained a cause of intrigue for locals, too, since it appeared perched on the shorefront one morning after a fierce storm hit the area in December 2011. That night eight years ago was particularly fateful for Lukas, who not only saw his beloved boat washed ashore, but his home too.
Sitting below the high tide line, Dayspring is still classed as being afloat and so does not fall within the remit of the Receiver of Wrecks, despite being land-bound for the best part of a decade. As it is not polluting the area, not posing a hazard and, as Lukas puts it, he is ‘not causing any trouble’, no laws are being broken.

Please enlarge the picture, the blossom is simply beautiful!

Nilo-Stolobenskaya pustyn (Nilo-Stolobensky Desert) s a monastery on Stolobny Island on Lake Seliger. This monastery arose on the site of the feat of the Monk Nile, the Stolobensky miracle worker, whose memory the Russian Orthodox Church performs on December 20.
Over the five centuries of its existence, the monastery, initially extremely poor, survived the heyday and special favor of the tsar’s family, plundered during the years of Soviet rule, turned into a labor commune, then a place for juvenile offenders and a camp for Polish prisoners of war, a hospital, a retirement home, an architectural monument and a camp site .
Monastic life in the Nile Desert revived after 1990, when the desert was returned to the Church. As before, Neil Stolobensky blesses the island, when on the memorial days the inhabitants of the monastery pass the procession with his relics, and recently the cell icon of the saint, which was considered lost, has returned to its place.
The village of Barbour is located at the extreme south of the Amerindian peninsula and constituting the heyday of the Iroquois in Tilly-sur-Mer also located on the North Brunswick peninsula and its seascape. Everything is beautiful and magnificent in the reefs and high tides.
Thanks a lot for your visits, comments, faves, invites !
Regards, Serge
