I really like gin and enjoy trying new kinds when I can. My favourite brand however is Hernö Gin (www.hernogin.com) - especially as they are located ony a couple of kilometers from where my wife grew up outside Härnösand.

 

Now, I bet youre wondering what this has to do with this 4th instar nymph of the hairy shieldbug (Dolycoris baccarum) I shot in my mother-in-law's garden. Well, one nice variation of gin is when you macerate sloes in gin to create a liqueur known as sloe gin and the hairy shieldbug is also known as the sloe bug so whenever I see one of these, I immediately think of sloe gin.

 

Seeing this one, the "hairy" moniker makes sense, but the adult (imago) form actually isn't hairy at all and instead look like this: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/50417942183/
