When I can't sleep, I count calories . . .

or, better yet, figure out a way to prepare simple meals that are low in such things, yet still delicious . . .

HERBALICIOUS, in fact!

My devilish eggs are always popping up on my stream, so please bear with me as I post another pic, since it is such a wonderful accompaniment to these other dishes!

Upper left is a casserole of "Chicken Provençal" about to bake.

Upper right is a salsa based dish from a Mexican restaurant.

Lower left is a new invention: sun-dried tomato basil tumaro quesadilla with cream cheese, salmon, cucumber & guacamole.

Lower right is self-explanatory!

Oh, OK, just one more. . .;) This is a close-up with the macro, a bit cropped, but no other enhancement. For those who like a little more simplicity and abstraction. My favouritest herbalicious perfume. MMMMMM!!!! If you have time, please see the other two previous.

This is herbalicious. “Kei Chi”, “Dang Kuei” and “Yok Chok” are Chinese herbs added to this dish to enhance its flavour. This is my 1st attempt to cook it this way. Other ingredients include garlic, pepper and both light and dark soya sauces.

I am satisfied with the result. And my family gave a good rating to this dish!

There was a TV programme called "Herbalicious" not long ago. Interestingly, Chinese herbs were featured and were used in different cuisines. When it came to western cuisine, the chef crisped some Chinese herbs in the oven to bring out the flavours before using them in his food creations.

As for me, my mum had a great influence on me concerning the use of Chinese herbs. The double-boiled soups she made for my siblings and I was especially fragrant and delicious. So was my dad who sometimes cooked exotic soups and nice food.

As for today, I had come up with steamed herbal chicken drumsticks. This was for YH who had asked for supper. To cook this a small handful of wolfberries, angelica roots, dried longans and "wai san" were added to the chicken drumsticks besides marinating them with both dark and light soya sauces, salt, pepper, ajinomoto and wine. Use Dom if you have it for extra flavour and fragrance. Place all ingredients in a metal container and steamed for 30 minutes.

Here's a recipe with a slight difference: Angelica Root / Dang Gui Drumsticks

The weather is really hot these days and will last a while. A timely double-boiled herbal soup that sooths the body and is apt for this hot season~ Dipping the meat into a sauce mixture of soya sauce and ground white pepper is delicious!

Altogether six Chinese herbs plus Dom and other seasonings were used to marinate the drumsticks before steaming. We couldn’t finish them in one meal. The leftover few were steamed again before consuming the next day. Given the extended time to soak in the herbal gravy had made the meat more “herbalicious” and flavourful!
