Canadian Pacific train 252 at Port Henry, the site of the old D&H yard, now just the main line and a maintenance stub remains.
One of a series of small statues made by a firm in Newcastle. This one was withdrawn soon after it appeared because of the recognisable make of vacuum cleaner ("Henry") and its manufacturer considering this to be a naughty use of their image. The series of figures is called "Bad Taste Bears" See more at This Website.

This is a panorama consisting of five frames looking south-east from the Larb Hollow Overlook on Utah State Route 12 in early spring, 1996.
The lower levels in the mid-distance are the Tantalus Flats with the Lower Bowns Reservoir in the mid-right of the image at 2,670m altitude.
Beyond the trees on the left is Capitol Reefs National Park. On the horizon, centrally and off to the right, are the Henry Mountains which are located in the south-eastern portion of Utah and run in a generally north-south direction, extending over a distance of about 50 km. They were named by Almon Thompson in honour of Joseph Henry, the first secretary of the Smithsonian Institution. They were the last mountain range to be added to the map of the 48 contiguous US states, in 1872 and before their official naming by Powell, were sometimes referred to as the "Unknown Mountains." In Navajo, the range is still referred to as Dził Bizhiʼ Ádiní ("mountain whose name is missing").
The range is clustered into two main groups, which are clearly visible here. The northern group (left) is by far the taller of the two with Mount Ellen: 3,511m above sea level; Mount Pennell: 3,465m; and Mount Hillers: 3,268m. The southern group (to the right) is much lower in elevation with two peaks: Mount Ellsworth: 2,510m and Mount Holmes: 2,438m. The southern group is also known as the "Little Rockies".
Although it doesn't look it in the panorama, the "Little Rockies" highest point is lower than the location I took the images from. The Larb Hollow Overlook is at an altitude of 2,670m - you can see the remnants of winter snow in the sunny foreground.
To give a sense of the distance, Mount Hillier in the northern group of the Henry Mountains is almost dead-centre in the image some 62 kms away.
The images were scanned from negatives and merged in Lightroom.
(Spanish for Hill House) is a Gothic Revival style house and gardens in midtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada, that is now a museum and landmark. It was originally a residence for financier Sir Henry Mill Pellatt. Casa Loma was constructed over a three-year period from 1911–1914. The architect of the mansion was E. J. Lennox, who was responsible for the designs of several other city landmarks.

Thea Foss started Foss Maritime Company in 1889, offering tug boat services, rowboats and naphtha launches, but that was before Henry's time. The Henry O. was built in 1982 and has a gross tonnage of 194 and busily hustles container ships to and from the Thea Foss waterway in Tacoma.
I was tasked by a friend of mine to get a shot of a tugboat and have been trying for some time. No, this one wasn't good enough either.... :-)

Always interesting when one finds old drawings. I know that I did this for Audio Magazine. I did illustrations for their record reviews from 1979 to 1995. However, I have no recollection what this was for, Henry VIII stepping out on the town.

Mrs. Ford's love of gardening and horticulture was said to be second only to her devotion to her husband and family. Her tastes in gardening were simple, at least as far as design and color were concerned. She preferred old-fashioned plant varieties such as Bachelor Buttons, Petunias, Irises, Peonies, Tulips, Lillies, Heliotropes, Delphiniums, Forget-Me-Nots, English Primrose, Scilla and, of course, Roses planted in relatively informal patterns. Indoors, her fondness for gardening was expressed by a variety of small cut flowers in small glass vases that were displayed in each room. In addition, there were assortments of foliage plants, especially located in the Swimming Pool area.
Clara Ford spent many hours planning, touring, and pampering her treasured Blue, English, and Rose Gardens, always on the lookout for imperfections such as a misplaced marigold among a sea of aqua and sky-blue blossoms. Her efforts were recognized publicly when she served as a president of the Women's National Farm and Garden Association from 1927-34.
It has been a number of years since the majority of Fair Lane's elaborate gardens have been planted and pampered the way they must have been when Mrs. and Mr. Ford were in residence. Consider, if you will, that Mrs. Ford routinely employed 25 fulltime gardeners in 1926. However, while these gardeners helped to cultivate estate grounds, there were only five servants that maintained the entire residence.
It would be almost impossible for the Henry Ford Estate-Fair Lane, as a non-profit organization, to restore each garden area fully. However, restoration of certain areas to their early 1920's state is now proceeding. The garden scheme being implemented reflects the original plan of Jens Jensen.

This is Henry who is only 6 months old and is being 'fostered' by my neighbour - though she will probably end up keeping him!! He keeps peeking over the fence but 'ducks' back down as soon as he sees me. I thought he and Kaiser would get on as they are both still 'kittens' but Kaiser feels threatened by him. Strangely enough Mojo, who as you all know is frightened of her own shadow, doesn't seem at all worried by him.
Kaiser's latest 'adventure' - he has started 'fishing' in our garden pond and yep, you've guessed it he fell in - lol. Poor baby all these lessons to learn.
We have a public holiday again on Monday and the forecast for the south of England is sunny - yipee!
Hope you all have a brilliant weekend
Happy Furry Friday:-)
Daytona Beach, Florida, USA.
Henry Ford was born on this day in 1863 - two years before the end of the American Civil War. My shot is from a trip to the Daytona Turkey Run where, as usual, I wasn't quite interested enough to note the subject's year of vintage. My resident expert says the Ford logo never looked like that, the bumper has been replaced with nerf bars, and the louvers are fake. He couldn't date it so I'm counting on someone here to do it!

These historic buildings on the Hobart waterfront now house a fashionable Art Hotel, the Landscape Restaurant (famous for its walls filled with genuine John Glover colonial landscapes), and the UTAS Centre for the Arts.
Originally they were owned by the Henry Jones IXL Company. One of the most famous Tasmanian fruit canning brands. In the colonial days Tasmania was the fruit bowl of Australia, indicated by its once popular nickname, "The Apple Isle". Henry Jones was formed in 1891 and produced jams, conserves and sauces. The IXL part of the name came from the family motto, "I excel in everything I do".

This is the dog cot, topped with the dog blankets, and then covered with an upholstery fabric remnant.
Henry knew what to do, immediately hopping up and gracefully draping his paws over the edge.
Did I teach him that?
I must have, as he repeats the behavior every time.
I reminded him how handsome he is (he already knew) as I raked out his feathers, then posed his head by showing him a Cookie. Lower your nose a bit. Good boy!

FWIW: The subtle backdrop is a delicate printed fine-mesh fabric draped over the normal black stretchy velvet. I love this because it's versatile (I've draped it over a solid white backdrop for a completely different look), it takes up little space, and you can stretch it taut to eliminate wrinkles.

Calke Abbey
“The National Trust’s un-stately home and country estate.”
The site was home to an Augustinian priory from the 12th century until its dissolution by Henry VIII.
The present building, built between 1701 and 1704, and named Calke Abbey in 1808, was never actually an abbey It was only ever a Baroque mansion
The house was owned by the Harpur family for nearly 300 years until it was passed to the National Trust in 1985 in lieu of death duties.
At its time of endowment, there had been little change to many rooms since the 1880s.
A massive amount of remedial work, but no restoration, has been done and the interiors are almost as they were found in 1985. The remedial work has halted, but not reversed, the decay of the building and its interiors.
Many abandoned areas vividly portray a period in the 20th century when numerous country houses did not survive to tell their story.
The house is open to the public and many of its rooms are deliberately displayed in the state of decline in which the house was handed to the Trust.

I'd planned on making these black and white, but after seeing the green bottle with the purple hat I changed my mind.
So you get... sliders!
No, there's nothing wrong with the originals, I just thought it made the image a bit more...

FWIW: The bottle is real - real glass, that is - but the "glass" is plastic. That's why Toby's version has the "glass" but not the bottle.
Do I trust Henry?
Not completely - I'm sitting inches away, just out of frame on the left - but I trust him a heck of a lot more than I trust Toby.

I never said I wouldn't push sliders!
A few years ago I realized that I had a desire to find and see as much of this beautiful state as I could and researched hikes utilizing the Washington Trails Association (of which I am now a proud member) and I found all of the 'bunny trails', one to (gasp) six miles and I saw some amazing beauty, but two years ago I saw an image of Indian Henry's Hunting Ground and the Ranger Scout Cabin located there and realized that this was a place that I could not go to. They list it at 14 miles (the signs on the trail say 16, I can add) with 3200 feet of elevation gain. After working out this winter and hiking every chance I could I struck out for this mystical magical place on a trail that climbs and descends several ridges, crosses many beautiful streams, passes two pack in campgrounds and with the exception of Rampart Ridge you do it on a part of the 95 mile trail that's calling my name, the Wonderland.
You approach from the right and you just see the side of it tucked neatly in the trees and then you look up at the amazing south west face of Rainier towering behind it, I'd say that it was breathtaking, but I didn't have any anyway..... :-) I ate lunch and sipped a Gatorade on the back step and glowed at the beauty I had found and knowledge that there isn't a place in the park that I can't get to now, might take a few days, but I can get there. (I also tacked on two miles and got Mirror lakes after lunch, I mean, I was in the neighborhood.....) :-)
Boots on the trail at 5:40 a.m., butt in the truck at 4:00 p.m. It was a VERY good day. I saw three people coming down on my way up and spoke to a man who was arriving via the much easier Tahoma Creek route as I was leaving. I've never been so alone in my life. :-)
