"Mehendi" is an Indian tradition for temporarily staining the skin with henna. It is such a beautiful tradition. (Thanks Tuhin for the information!)
On a technical note, this is straight out of the camera -- I love the 1D -- it's usually almost always spot on.
The sisters just got henna done on their hands. I ran into them while visiting a small village on the outskirts of Kaduna.
During the events leading to the actual wedding days before the ladies/girls spend an evening having henna put on. For the bride the mehndi (henna) day is very important. The bride usually has an eleborate designs on both hands and feet and and the friends and family can choose to have simpler designs put on (as above).
