When I’m bereft of inspiration the graveyard beckons … this pair of tilted headstones caught my rheumy eye.

Before going into isloation I visited Henderson Waves, part of Singapores Southern Ridges area.

At 36 metres above ground, the Henderson Waves bridge is the highest pedestrian bridge in Singapore. Unveiled in 2008, its fantastical shape has lent an unexpected jolt of design savvy to the lush green belt in the south of Singapore.

Henderson Waves is anchored by steel arches and filled in with curved slats of Balau wood

True to its name, the bridge mimics the undulating shape of a wave, curving and twisting along its entire 274-metre length. Its form is anchored by steel arches and filled in with curved ‘ribs’—slats of Balau wood, a dense hardwood used in heavy construction which is found only in Southeast Asia.

The bridge’s shape allows it to have hidden recesses and shell-like niches, where pedestrians can sit and observe their surroundings. Because there’s privacy and room to rest, the bridge is a popular spot on weekends with couples, joggers and families with children.

As dusk falls, visitors linger to admire the bridge, which is illuminated to stunning effect by light-emitting diode (LED) lighting from 7pm to 7am every night.

Marbled Godwits breed in three distinct areas with their own unique route. The vast majority occur in mid-continental North America, followed by Eastern Canada and the Alaska Peninsula, USA. In addition, the largest winter ranges are the Atlantic, Pacific and Gulf coasts of the US and Mexico. I personally have seen them on the coast in Humboldt County in California and generally they are found on the coasts of North America. Godwits breeding in the Western USA and Canada follow a route through the Utah stopover site, with a final arrival in the winter sites of Mexico. Species breeding in Eastern Canada migrate across the US and stopover at sites along the Gulf of California and Mexico. Furthermore, those breeding in North and South Dakota winter in Coastal Georgia. These particular birds (10-20) do not appear to be migrating at the moment and have been at the preserve for over a month.

Stylish inline 4 from 1912 . Manufactured in the USA .

Engine : 965 cc inlet - over - exhaust in line four .

Power : 7 HP

Designers : William Henderson .

Production : 1911-1931

The Henderson Motorcycle Company was established in 1912 and went against the prevailing single - cylinder and V - twin engine types from the start . It was a shrewd move , founders William and Tom Henderson instead produced a range of inline 4 cylinder designs that were the fastest two wheeled machines of their time .

The four cylinder engines were more typical in cars , but the Henderson was fast , light and reliable and set many long distance and speed records .

Today I ventured to Henderson Falls in the Otways. Perfect day for waterfalls with gorgeous winter diffused light and plenty of mud. No leeches thank goodness.

The Henderson Waves is Singapore's highest pedestrian bridge -- you can see the treetops and rooftops to the side! Difficult to take photos though. People kept passing by, thus making the bridge and my tripod vibrate.

I loved this "tractor in the sky " so much as a young child my mother sent me the newspaper clipping from the day it and the building were demolished. :-)

Henderson built motorcycles from 1912 until 1931. In 1917 the Hendersons sold the firm to Ignaz Schwinn, owner of Schwinn bicycles and Excelsior motorbikes, and production was moved from Detroit to Chicago.

I believe this building dates to about 1931 and might have been used in the operation of the Henderson Water Tower built the same year.

NS 282 passes CP Henderson as it enters the Atlanta Terminal. Leading is Sonic Bonnet 4001, one of the first two DC-to-AC conversions that NS completed to extend the life of their older locomotives, hence the special paint scheme that it wears. The 4001 was also famous for being involved in a wreck in 2017 that resulted in the locomotive landing on its side. The engine was eventually rebuilt by the Juniata Locomotive Shops in Altoona, PA in 2020 & it has been running ever since. 2-7-21
