A view of the Bumpass Hell geothermal area from the trail leading down to it. This is the most well known of the park's geothermal features. In fact, it is the largest geothermal area in the US outside of Yellowstone.
It is named after Kendall Vanhook Bumpass, an explorer who lived in the area in the 1860's. One day, he was showing some people the area when his leg fell through the muddy crust covering a mud pot, severely burning his leg. The hell part of the name should be obvious.
Hundreds of people from across the country flock to the small town of Hell, Michigan to celebrate June 6, 2006 (6/6/6).

(Surprised I didn't get to Gang of Four in the last Jukebox week. They're one of my favorite bands, although I don't actively seek them out much any more. I listened to nothing but Entertainment! for about 6 months in college and burned out on them. What that means now is that every time they come up on shuffle I'm surprised again by how damn good they are.)

I'm guessing there's a mama somewhere, but she's not revealing her whereabouts.

God bless everyone affected and please everyone stays safe and get out when you are able. I wonder how many people are going to ignore the Hell venom piggly wiggly shirt and get trapped or killed this time, and then blame the various authorities that told them to leave. Hey everybody just remembers, if you’re in this hurricane your washing machines can be used as an ice cooler for your hurricane parties does anyone knows what will happen if the 2 storms collide? Will Florence suck the other one in and strengthen? Prayers for everyone in its path.
