A truly unique formation of two iconic former Cold War adversaries: an Apache and a Hind. The Czech helo was scheduled to perform after the WAH-64D, so the pilots organized on the spot an ad-hoc formation. They took off together, made a few flybys and then the Hind broke off and orbited as the Apache flew its display. Despite the backlight and the heat, it is a stunning sight to have these two helos in one frame flying over the iconic city of Berlin, the point where the Cold War began and met its conclusion.

Dedicated to Tim McMental, whose former regiment is flying the AAC Apache display and who lived through the dark days prior to the Wall coming down. This image is not only pretty to him, but it is a sobering reminder of just how well the Cold War turned out.

A very rare sight these days, a Bo 105 accelerating to begin its aerobatic display at Tag der Bundeswehr 2016 (Day of the Armed Forces) held at Flugplatz Hohn. This airframe was built as a P1 combat helicopter with anti-tank missiles. Then it was converted into a P1M VBH Verbindungshubschrauber (liaison and training helicopter) by removing the weapon systems. They are now being systematically replaced by EC 135 in the light and training helicopter roles.

Next week, on October 19th, the last Bo-105s of the Heer (German Army) will be retired, ending a long chapter in its history.

"Let me see, let me see!!!" There is something very interesting going on in this compartment of the helicopter! Might be a TV set showing a football game or it might be some abnormal temperature indication judging by the fire extinguisher in the flight mechanic's hand. Subsequently she flew away just fine. Speyer museum Germany. Aircraft is ex 98+34, 13 Black, DDR442 of the German Army.

The L.2002 is a long overdue replacement for the AG.1965 gunship. The helicopter is better armed and much better protected, equipped with a standard 35 mm anti-personnel cannon, 4 multi-purpose rocket launchers, and 2 rocket pods. The helicopter can be armed with a variety of AGMs and AAMs, but is usually used for anti-tank warfare and overwatch. It also carries large stores of flares and chaff to evade enemy missiles. With improved avionics and engine modules as well, this helicopter is the ultimate in death from above.

Armament:

1 35 mm autocannon

4 missile hardpoints

2 24-tube 72 mm rocket pods
