When I informed myself what I have to see in Northern Irland I have found this hedges. A touristic hot spot for 'Game of thrones' fans, cause a lot of locations has to be found here. I saw only one of hundert films and it was... nothing for me, but this alley is magic.

The Dunnock (Prunella modularis) is a species of bird in the genus Braunellen, the only genus in the family of the same name, Braunellen (Prunellidae). The Dunnock is a widespread and common breeding and summer bird in Central Europe, but because of its inconspicuous plumage it is usually only noticed for its vocalisations. In some areas of Central Europe it is even an annual bird. Hedge sparrows are particularly common in young spruce stands. In the mountains, they occur as far as the knee timber region.

Dunnock Hedge Sparrow nest building in my garden

Hedge posts like this are a common sight in rural Kansas. Hedge rows of Osage Orange trees planted to mark early property lines across the plains still provide fencing in use today.

No trip to Ireland is complete without a stop at the Dark Hedges. In about 1775, James Stuart built a new house, named Gracehill House after his wife Grace Lynd. Over 150 beech trees were planted along the entrance road to the estate, to create an imposing approach. According to legend, the hedges are visited by a ghost called the Grey Lady, who travels the road and flits across it from tree to tree. The Dark Hedges were popularized when the location was used as a filming location for the "King's Road" in the television series “Game of Thrones”. -wikipedia

grabbed another walk round the fields with the dogs, and this is one that they couldn't get in on ;-)

Played around loads with — for me — subtle tweaks and ended up, if this is the version I remember, leaving it pretty much untouched, except for calming down the red of the rose-hip.

in overcast light, it was the dark tips of these tiny leaves that first caught me.

This is the Gatekeeper or Hedge brown. I did see him sunbathing on my hedge. I find the Dutch name beautiful: "Oranje Zandoogje" (Little Orange Sandeye).

Another shot of a Dunnock (Hedge Sparrow) feeding in my garden. Not really a Sparrow of course, the Hedge Sparrow has a thin, pointed, insect eating beak, unlike the ‘other’ sparrows who have sturdy, strong, seed cracking beaks.
