A poster-sized stamp of a hedcut of Greta Garbo. Found on the 3rd floor of the Scandinavian House on Park Avenue in Murray Hill, with 25% off all their holiday food.
One of my clones says he has a time machine. I have the vague impression that there used to be someone else on the ten dollar bill.
This is a poor imitation of the hedcut stippling style used on US money (and in the Wall Street Journal) but a real hedcut takes hours and this is close enough. :-)

In an attempt at simulating the stipple hand-painted portrait effect the Wall Street Journal uses, I failed.
I did, however, end up with a rather interesting result anyway. I've detailed a full tutorial on doing this in a blog post

Remember when the Journal looked like this? Even though Dow Jones was already fiddling with its format, it was still an arguably serious-looking newspaper. It wasn't that long ago. This is a yellowing issue I found in my files. It's from 2003. Even though DJ was already on its way to reformatting - and ruining - the paper, Rupert Murdoch came along and finished the job. I wish I could find an issue from before this generation -- when they more prominently used the hedcuts - or stipple - illustrations.
An answer for what you get for the guy who has everything. I met an exec from the Wall Street Journal when I spoke at the Risk Conference in Houston earlier this year. She hooked me up with one of her artists, and I had them create this for his birthday.
I figure it's only a matter of time before they need one anyway, and it will be handy for them to already have one on file. = )
I normally keep my photos under a creative commons license -- I can't do that in this case, so please honor that restriction.
Randy has created hundreds of hand-crafted, pen and ink portraits – commonly referred to as HEDCUTS for The Wall Street Journal since the mid 90’s.

Wall of hedcut portraits in one of the hallways.
We were trying to figure out if there's any rhyme or reason to the arrangement or the selection; after about 30 seconds, we gave up and decided they're up there "just because"
this was a very quick study from a photograph for a movie title sequence pitch. the concept was to do Wall Street Journal "hedcut" type drawings. just proof of concept, not my best work.
