This excavator had a primary purpose as an earth mover, yet in this snow covered image - it looks like it could have been contracted out to dig through the freshly fallen snow.
Looks can be deceiving.
**Captured less than two weeks ago. The snow has since then melted and Spring appears to have arrived.
Excavators are heavy construction equipment consisting of a boom, dipper, bucket and cab on a rotating platform known as the "house". The house sits atop an undercarriage with tracks or wheels. They are a natural progression from the steam shovels and often mistakenly called power shovels. All movement and functions of a hydraulic excavator are accomplished through the use of hydraulic fluid, with hydraulic cylinders and hydraulic motors. Due to the linear actuation of hydraulic cylinders, their mode of operation is fundamentally different from cable-operated excavators which use winches and steel ropes to accomplish the movements.

HTT (no room in the group on April 30, 2020 - maybe try 1st Thursday in May)
I could hardly believe my eyes. I have driven down this Highway 99 many times in my life, and never really noticed what they were doing over at this factory/plant. They took a huge Semi truck cab and all, and lifted it way the heck up in the air to let it unload by gravity. The trailer part of those trucks is usually 53' alone. I was impressed. That is no Toy Tonka truck up there.

Arrived home from work last week and this collection of discarded rubber was on the meridian...we are not sure why haha
The road hasn't been the same since the 200 year storm 6 years ago

These sink holes are getting to be far too common on our road. Today it tried to eat a little man in his compact car O_o
Thanks Franco
Out of nowhere, a White Rabbit runs past her, fretting that he will be late. The Rabbit pulls a watch out of his waistcoat pocket and runs across the field and down a hole. Alice impulsively follows the Rabbit and tumbles down the deep hole that resembles a well....
No offense to the workers but this is what I see everyday...I'm tempted to don an Orange vest and run over and see what they are all looking at !
When I got home last night they had put a better barrier around the "rabbit hole"
Just clicked this quickly early this morning from my deck before leaving for work
This might be what is known as a Continuous Flight Auger Rig...soil is loosened at the auger tip...brought to the surface by the auger flight...but I really have no idea other than it is a massive piece of machinery
The road just kept breaking away during the day that they closed even more of the block down...repairs to the road and the stench *ugh* could take about 5 days
There are 3 pumps set up to drain the hole...being it is a raw sewage line that gave out...it's a little smelly around here...
The worker that draws the short straw has to go down into the sinkhole and they others get to stand above ground and cheer him on =P
Well...the road caved in...you can see in the dark area there is nothing supporting the road...and the pavement with the purple markings...well all that collapsed while I was at work
Haha the 3 - 5 day job was long out the window but now it's the end of November !! Being there is a 2 year old one across the street......it might be the end of November...just not of this year =P
But hey things are getting really cool with our underground sewer work. Not all that far from our dig is another dig and they found dinosaur bones and keep finding teeth and bones the more they dig. It's well known that the province I live in is dinosaur land but to know in your own neighborhood dinos walked.....awesome
Now maybe that's why they all keep looking down the hole looooooool
