Husband's IKEA Hack: Hacked upright lamp pole into a hanger/chandelier for IKEA MELODI Pendant Lamps

My IKEA Hack blogged IKEA Hack: Malm w/ Storage Boxspring

I can't wait to show the before & after photos. Now when we're sitting in the dining room or on the front porch, we'll have something nice to look at. Less rhodies & azaleas (I'm not a fan of all the purples & hot pinks), & more ornamental evergreens, ferns & moss Zen garden.

w/ Maple Butter Icing, Maple Sugar (Sprinkles) & Bacon

I used this recipe, but noticed it needed some improving

www.vanillagarlic.com/2007/05/maple-bacon-cupcakes-with-m...

I made these changes:

-reverse the b. soda & b. powder amounts (1t b.powder & 1/2t b.soda)

-replace the milk w/ buttermilk

-add/mix the maple syrup in the same time as the milk, since they are both liquids

icing changes:

-whatever you do, DON'T use powdered sugar (overly processed/white sugars cheapen the taste & give you a headache). Maple syrup & butter alone are enough. If you like lots of icing, double the butter & maple syrup

-add some Maple Sugar sprinkles on top & half a piece of bacon :)

The house that Saul Zaik designed for his family in 1961, natural wood, carefully placed windows w/ wooded views. The main house & bedroom wing are separated by a glass entry lobby. Constructed using post & beam, main living space is a "great room" w/ dining, living & kitchen below a vaulted ceiling. White wall panels balance the large amount of wood & partial-height walls control spatial organization while allowing the ceiling to float overhead.

I made something off my Pinterest board "On The Menu" As always I halved all the sugars in the recipes & it was still too sweet. The cake called for 1½C sugar ... I used ½C organic brown sugar & ¼C organic g. sugar ... the cake turned out perfect & very moist! The icing called for 1C powered sugar (horrid!) ... I used ½C organic brown sugar ... this was the too sweet part ... next time I will only use ¼C b. sugar. Also I replaced the 1-2T milk w/ organic cream. I didn't have a whole walnut half to save my life, in fact I barely had a ¼C organic walnuts & a scant ¼C organic pecans ... so I caramelized them BOTH, chopped them when cool & sprinkled them on the cake ... YUM!

2013 NORTH AMERICAN TOUR

Tuesday July 9, 2013

Skagit River Ranch, Sedro-Woolley, WA

HOST FARMERS: George & Eiko Vojkovich, Skagit River Ranch

GUEST CHEF: Brandon Pettit, Delancey, Seattle & Essex, Seattle

OITF staff member and former Seattle resident Anna Gelb organized a good portion of the schedule this year. She tells us: "George Vojkovick is the grass-fed beef God in the Seattle area." Mmmm... sounds good.

Brandon Pettit is chef/owner of Delancey & Essex. Molly Wizenberg, who writes the popular Orangette blog, is a co-owner (& Brandon's wife). Delancey is their first restaurant, rustic, unpretentious & delicious, while the younger Essex boasts incredible cocktails & homemade Fernet. Add Skagit River Ranch & it sounds like a recipe for an amazing farm dinner.
