"I've found someone who sings along to the love songs that once made me think of you," I said.
"Do I regret spending all that time missing you? No, but without the waves of aching for you, I wouldn't known that one day, I could sing them with a fire in my soul instead of wishing they existed.
Now, these songs make sense."
— Stories I'll tell one day.
About 25 years ago, my wife Sammy had surgery on her face for melanoma, and when she returned to work with the whole side of her face covered with a bandage, one of her co-workers gave her this little 1½ inch stone and told her it was a healing stone. So, she kept it close, and sure enough, her melanoma was completely healed.

In meteorology, a virga, also called a dry storm, is an observable streak or shaft of precipitation falling from a cloud that evaporates or sublimates before reaching the ground. A shaft of precipitation that does not evaporate before reaching the ground is a precipitation shaft. At high altitudes the precipitation falls mainly as ice crystals before melting and finally evaporating; this is often due to compressional heating, because the air pressure increases closer to the ground. It is very common in deserts and temperate climates. In North America, it is commonly seen in the Western United States and the Canadian Prairies. It is also very common in the Middle East, Australia, and North Africa.

My birth month is October and I have four opal rings because of that! (Only two made the photo shoot though.) But I'd never read of their supposed healing power. Today seemed an appropriate time to pull them out all things considered! I'll take any help I can.

Najaf Dur-e-Najaf is a very religious stone for Muslims.
It is obtained from Najaf Al Ashraf, Iraq. Those obtained from the river are more illustrious than those obtained from land. It is good for ailments of the eye and it creates happiness in the heart. It is a gemstone full of spiritual, religious values and benefits. Dur-e-Najaf brings self-knowledge and wisdom to us. It can also supply energy and stamina to the lagging physique. The Men-an-Tol holed stone, Bosullow, near Morvah, Cornwall. Believed to date from the early Bronze Age, its purpose is unknown, but research conducted in the 1990s revealed that the three main stones, together with four nearby standing and fallen stones, were components of a stone circle 17m across, probably containing 19 or 20 stones.
The Men-an-Tol is known locally as the Crick Stone, on account of its alleged healing properties. People suffering from rheumatism or sciatica would crawl nine times around the stones and, if thin enough, through the aperture. The number nine is held to be a number sacred to the moon, emphasising the link between lunar phases and pagan rituals. For centuries, children were made to pass nine times through the hole naked, as a treatment for rickets.
I'm usually fairly cynical about these mystical beliefs and practices, but in the case of the last one I have little doubt that it was an immensely effective treatment - but not because of any magical healing power of the stones. Rickets is a condition that affects bone development in children, often leading to bone pain, poor growth and soft, weak bones leading to deformities, particularly bow legs. It is caused by a deficiency of Vitamin D, which is generated naturally by the cholesterol in our skin when exposed to sunlight. As little as 10 - 30 minutes of exposure is all that is required for the body to generate enough Vitamin D.
Even centuries ago, I suspect that any caring parent taking their children up onto the moors to crawl naked through the Men-an-Tol would have waited for a warm and sunny day, and by the time the child had passed through the stone nine times they would probably have had more than enough exposure to the sun's rays to satisfy their Vitamin D requirements - and so protect them against rickets.
And before anyone asks, yes I have crawled through the stone, many times, but not this time.

Japanese wrapped stones (also called 'Zen stones' or 'healing stones') are rocks that are wrapped in natural cane using Japanese basketry and knotting techniques. The wraps may be complicated or simple but the resulting fusion of rock and cane exudes a sense of peace, calm, and tranquility within intricacy of design.
Seen and photographed on display at Hakone Japanese Gardens in Saratoga, California.

Jasper is the stone of selflessness; it is the mother of all stones bringing about Love of all mankind. To draw away focus from pain, back to the centre. For emotional, mental and physical pain, it is a grounding and healing stone. Jasper makes its effects known slowly and gradually, just like nature. It's considered an emotionally calming stone, and can be an excellent stone for either those who are hypersensitive to crystalline energy and find it difficult to work with, or for those who like change to be a gradual, unfolding process. It has been called the supreme nurturer, reminds us there is more that surrounds us than ourselves, protect from negativity, helping to ground us, balances yin yang and assists us during astral travel. Helps to align and cleanse our Chakra's and Aura. It helps to balance the physical, emotional and intellectual bodies with the etheric energies. It is said to have been worn by priests and kings and used in a ceremonial way in Native American traditions. This stone increases determination in all pursuits and aids quick thinking. It also reminds one to be honest with oneself and to help others.
