I'm learning, I'm grieving, I'm hurting

I'm keeping my head above water and drowning my feelings

I'm up, and I'm down, so sure of myself

'Til I doubt just about everything

And I'm picking up pieces, I'm slowly believing

I can still miss him and know I don't need him

Cause moving on don't happen in a straight line

It's uneven, I-I-I-I'm healing

Prunella vulgaris

Yesterday Benni and I went to South Laguna, Treasure Island, and walked along the bluffs in 80 F. weather. There were few people and everything was so beautiful.

Our son, Doug, had to put his deputy partner dog, Ari, age 14, to sleep this week and the whole family was shattered. In July they lost Vixen so this was doubly hard. In our family pets are family as I know they are in yours, my Flickr friends. Doug got an outpouring of comments, pictures and love from Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Dept. and from Ari's own Facebook page. That helped too.

Going with Benni to the beach is my healing.

(198/366) Self Heal "Prunella vulgaris" growing in our garden.

This pretty little flower has long been regarded to have medicinal virtues as its name would suggest. In the seventeenth century Nicholas Culpeper wrote of it as a wound herb 'whereby when you are hurt you may heal yourself'. It is now know to have anti-allergenic constituents and to act as an anti-inflammatory agent.

Happy National Nurse's Week! Hug a nurse this week if you know one. :)

Another photo from in the poppies with my amazing friends! I have had this idea in my mind and sketched in my Alice in wonderland themed notebook for a while now, felt that this location was perfect for bringing it to life!

I wrote this today when trying to be as present in life as possible, whilst staring at flowers:

'We are both living and dying, blooming and loosing, all at the same time. As we live more and more with each day, the consequence is that we are slowly decaying.'

It is so sad but true, I know though that we must live as brightly and vibrantly as possible, and not concern ourselves with what could be. I must be a big beautiful flower, who can heal and bring life to others that may need help.

(whipping out the free Brooke Shadem textures on this one for the first time in ages! Horray for bringing back the classic techniques!)

my hobby is all things holistic/natural health. i believe that real unprocessed whole foods/herbs/seeds are the medicine we need to heal our bodies and our furkid's, too. they help keep us as healthy as possible. this is a pic of me preparing fresh homemade food for my almost 14yr old cockapoo, mario. i have recently been adding chia seeds to his meal and was surprised to look at them through the lens and see how detailed and cool these tiny seeds actually are. from my naked eye the seeds look mainly black and not nearly as spiffy :) HMM to you all!

The famous Cecil Brewer designed staircase in Heal's Furniture Store taken from above. I follow in the footsteps of many other photographers wanting to capture this amazing piece of architecture.

I used to live in Southwark for 5 years and everyday I would walk pass Borough Market on my way to work. In the evenings I would jog over London Bridge because the sight really made me feel I was in the grand city of London, it was inspiring and it filled me with pride that I was able to call this place my home. A home where I can be myself and feel safe within the community. Last night's tragic event violated the peace that my old community had built on but I know they are strong and are willing to help each other pull through hard times. This is but a scratch that we will heal from.

Prunella vulgaris is a herbaceous plant in the genus Prunella. Self-heal is edible: the young leaves and stems can be eaten raw in salads; the plant in whole can be boiled and eaten as a potherb; and the aerial parts of the plant can be powdered and brewed in a cold infusion to make a beverage. Heal All, also known as Heart of the Earth, Brunella and Hook-Heal, is a common pasture herb in the mint family that is found throughout Europe and the British Isles. This small, low-growing plant has a very long history of use in Europe, in which the entire plant appears to have earned a place in traditional folk wisdom.

Heal-all is edible, and can be used in salads, soups, stews, and boiled as a pot herb. The Cherokee cooked and ate the young leaves. The Nlaka'pamux drank a cold infusion of the whole plant as a common beverage. The plant contains vitamins A, C, and K, as well as flavonoids and rutin.
