Amazing storm last night. This was just the pre-show warm up. The headliner was more auditory with flash-pop lightning and buckets of rain swallowed by gale force winds.

For over twenty years, a dedicated team of volunteers at the Bluebell Railway, has been rebuilding 'Beachy Head'. No. 32424 was a class H2 'Atlantic' type locomotive, which was one one of a batch originally constructed by the London Brighton & South Coast Railway between 1911 and 1912 at Brighton. 'Beachy Head' was the last of the class to be withdrawn in 1958.

In 2000, the Bluebell Railway announced an ambitious plan to rebuild one of these locos, and it's now complete and looks superb!

For the last week of August 'Beachy Head' will be the main attraction on the Bluebell Railway, as it will be officially launched into public service on the railway.

I was keen to see this locomotive as the class were a favourite of my late father. Three of his photos of the original 'Beachy Head' are in the links below.

Sun-bleached and salt-bitten, these news racks are like washed-up relics, once humming with headlines, now just skeletons on the sidewalk.

Paint curls, rust spreads, hinges seize — yet fresh papers still land behind the cloudy glass.

she was so young...

Who can identify the language that these newspapers are printed in? The paper across the lad's arm has the word Hitler as part of the headline. Any translation of the visible print?

Stevens Point, Wi was quite abuzz this morning. With the new GTW heritage unit going to the Whitehall Sub yesterday it was bound to come back. Nice to see a few other guys up here to split responsibilities. Cheers Rece and Rich.

My instincts had paid off. Checking out that good sounding horn lead me to a X/M344 with a classy SD60 leading a handful of other 6 axles. This is just a example of the coin toss mystery Southbound on the Superior Sub. You never know if it will be something good or if it will be a 1x1 intermodal.

Old Man : Don't think for a minute that I don't see you snapping away.

SS : Gee, and I'm known to be so stealth-like on the streets.

Old Man : You think cos I'm old and with my nose buried in the paper that I'm not paying attention, eh?

SS : Really sorry but I find you most interesting.

Old Man : You find old men reading papers interesting?

SS : Well, no, I mean yeah, well not all old men reading newspapers.

Old Man : One's with Yankee caps then?

SS : Uh, no, it's not the hat, it's uh....can't explain.

Old Man : You're a strange one. Why don't you take pictures of buildings like all these tourists do.

SS : I could it's just that I find people more interesting, everyday people doing everyday things.

Old Man : So you photograph mundane things, boring everyday things, people doing nothing things.

SS : Hmm, sounds like I could get in trouble if I answered that. So, anything interesting in the paper today?

Old Man : Nah, just some story here about a photographer that got himself shot and killed by taking a picture of the wrong person at the wrong time, not much else today.....hey, where did you go?
