Upper Antelope Canyon. Our Navajo guide Bonnie showed my husband and I this shot. Lying on our backs on the sand with our heads jammed against the wall and our cameras pressed on our faces(to hold it still without a tripod), this rock forms the outline of a coyote.......otherwise NOT visible from another angle. Bonnie kept saying, "Do you see it?" :0)

Well, it appears we aren't the sharpest tools in the box. I've just been browsing through some images on my computer and have come across a load from when we went to Southsea a few weeks ago that we have somehow neglected to put online. We've already had rounds 1 and 2 of the Southsea Head Jam so now it's onto our third installment with a little roundup of unseen images from that weekend. We had a great time in the sun painting with Process Smith, My Dog Sighs, Miss Wah and Korp.
The trouble with pictures with a messy background is that when people are watching you at the start it looks pretty dismal and seems like we have no idea what we're doing (which is sometimes true but we try not to make it appear so!) It was so shady to begin with that the owner of Head hairdressing where we were painting was more than a little bit worried he'd made a big mistake as he kept glancing out from behind his barber's chair whilst cutting peoples hair inside. I believe it was his girlfriend who commented 'I do that when i doodle on the phone'. Doesn't exactly make us sound like pro's but we've persevered though worse...
At this early stage however it was all about making as much mess as possible and getting a load of paint on before finally bringing it back under control. So after we'd finished making a mess in the way only we know how it was time to bring it together with the ubiquitous sexy girl.
After we finished her though we moved on to other bits around the courtyard whilst at the same time basking in the sun, eating and drinking beer but it wasn't over yet for this piece. All the artists involved then swapped their personal paint hats for their collaborative paint hats and everything started to get tweaked here and there. MyDog Sighs jumped on the wall and gave us a few water droplets for good measure before Process Smith added his dark cloud, lightning bolt and (my favourite touch of the day) his lovely floating goldfish. Then MyDog did one of the fishes eyes whilst Process moved down the wall to paint two majestic looking crows. Whilst he was up a ladder it was unanimously decided that 2 hearts should be put on the crows chests. This took place quickly whilst he was still up the ladder (in case he didn't agree). Remember it's easier to seek forgiveness than permission. Here ends the lesson.

Jupiter from our back door a few minutes ago. There's blue in the sky because it was a fairly long exposure, with my elbow and the back of my head jammed up against the doorframe. The long exposure is why most things that should be round or pinpoints are actually smears, and why Jupiter appears as a starburst.
It looks like there are only three Jovian moons, all on the left side of Jupiter. But the "one" closest to the starburst effect of Jupiter is actually two moons. If it weren't as bright, you could see that one is partially behind the other. In order from the left, they are Callisto and Europa, and then together, Io and Ganymede, with Io just above Ganymede.
Don't ask me what the three stars are to the right of Jove. I don't know. But I know that right now there is a dim galaxy between Jupiter and these three stars. Its name is IC1821. If I had a much better lens (or maybe just an ordinary telescope . . . I dunno) I might see it. But it isn't in my picture.

On Monday we showed you round 1 of our collaboration with MyDogSighs and today we jump on in to Round 2 with the added inclusion of Korp. This piece had no planning whatsoever as we weren't originally even meant to be painting that wall. Sadly, Snik was unable to make it down to Southsea which meant that we had an even bigger space to fill. Not being ones to shirk our responsibility when it comes to applying paint to a wall we jumped in enthusiastically. It started innocently enough as a quick play with a can on this spare wall with no intention of actually using it for the basis of a piece but on one occasion whilst I was up sitting on the roof basking in the sun MyDog decided to come along with the other half of id-iom to use what was there for another off the cuff collaboration wall. This was probably one of my favourite parts of the day due to the fact that it was a free for all wall with an anything goes attitude. Win all round.

Over the weekend we popped down to Southsea for a little paint jam organised by My Dog Sighs. On the drive down the weather improved and we arrived in glorious sunshine without a cloud in the sky. It only took us about an hour and a half in the id-iomobile and due to the other half of id-iom's echolocation skills we found where we were meant to paint straight away. Along with us and MyDog we also had the illustrious company of Miss Wah Wah, Korp and Process Smith. Snik was due down but didn't manage to make it due to car troubles.
We had the courtyard area to fill in a day and we were a man down so we all just had to work that little bit harder. We were very well looked after by the Strong Island crew who kept plying us with beer and food. What more could we have asked for? As the day progressed we started getting attempting to tie it all together and had a load of fun collaboration with Mydog on sorting the backgrounds out and he also painted the eyes in on one of our ladies. For no better reason other than we could we decided to give her a glass eye.

Tenor saxophonists Frank Foster was one of "*The Two Franks" of Count Basie's second great band (nic-named "The New Testament Band"). This second great ensemble came about in the early fifties. Unlike the first Basie band They eschewed blues headed jams/songs whose draw was the virtuoso solos for a greater complexity in their charts and arrangements (by Neal Hefti, The Two Franks and Thad Jones who also shared the front line on coronet et al). The cerebral apsect was not at the expense of soloist though, Basie still attracted some of the best, people like Eddie Lockjaw Davis, Joe Newman, Marshal Royal and many more. Categorized as "Big Band" the label itself serves as a turnoff to those who have not tried it but the classic Verve label albums offer not a glimpse of another era but music whose emotion still resonates with a bluesy-sexy cool for the thinking man. Another reason it has aged well because it posses a large degress of timelessness as Basie in his Wisdom incorporated components of the best of that which had been plus what was then just emerging on the scene. Basie like saxophone all-father Coleman Hawkins was very open to what the later generations were doing and kept his ears open. Frank also made much other worthwhile music in his post Basie years as leader and with other musicians (Elvin Jones) and as a collaborator (Hank Jones, Jimmy Smith et al). Franks playing had a richness to it but also some muscle, the burnished wood of a bar and the mellow gold of the light breaking through the drink which rests upon it. He never tried to ape any of the greats who had been on the Basie bandstand before him yet his own style meshed well with not only the band's identity but the material as well. He contributed compositions and arrangements which have gone on to become part of the jazz lexicon ( "Shiny Stockings" "Down For The Count" "Back To The Apple")

Icelandic Cuisine
The Icelandic national food, þorramatur.
Iceland offers wide varieties of traditional cuisine. Þorramatur (food of the þorri) is the Icelandic national food. Nowadays þorramatur is mostly eaten during the ancient Nordic month of þorri, in January and February, as a tribute to old culture. Þorramatur consists of many different types of food, for example sour ram's testicles, rotten shark, burned sheep heads, sheep's head jam, blood pudding, dried fish (often cod or haddock) with butter and many other courses that are considered delicious among many islanders.
I can tell you, it was yummy-good !
The client told of this great artwork he had on the wall in the bathroom, but was never able to get a flattering photo. Well that just sounds like a challenge... I had the 190D pro head hanging out over the basin, wide angle lens basically touching and my head jammed up against the shower screen trying to get the right angle on this. i like the way the tap interupts the image and the edge of the door frame was another important part for me.

After finishing for the day we put up our little graffiti contract stencil and got everyone to sign off. I know anyone who is going to get out and do some graff doesn’t need to sign a contract as you’re already out there doing it but this is for all those people who sit on their sofas wishing they could get out and do something but don’t. This is for all those people who need to put their money where their mouth is. This contract is for me.
If you sign it - then you’re in, it’s as simple as that!! We don’t mess about. This is ironclad!

JOHN LENNON & PAUL McCARTNEY: LA JAM SESSIONS 1974 2 CD
Of the sessions recorded and released here, the first was recorded a LA’s Record Plant studios on the 28th of March, 1974 as John partied with a group of like minded lunatics as they slowly got more and more drunk and evidently more coked up. The sessions from the evening were booted in the mid-nineties as Mistrals, ‘A Toot And A Snore, ’74’ (Evidently a mistake made in translation as, as we know, ‘snort’ is more likely to be the operative term for what was going on in the studio that night.)
The tape used here is said to be a generation higher and slightly longer - It certainly sounds clearer, it’s still rough as the volume is pushed to its highest levels there is a certain amount of distortion here and there. Nothing that can’t ruin the mood of this smokey little get-together but it would be a blissfully Beatle awed mind that might find a great deal of promise from this rag-bag of oldies and jams.
Fast forward to May and we have “Sunday Night At The Record Plant”! The session tape leads in with a spark-out version of both ‘Rock Island Line’ and ‘Midnight Special’ sung, not especially well, by John and Paul Simon.
