Having grown-up on a large farm in Michigan, I like barns. And I really appreciate folks that are able to take good care of their old barns. This one from 1925 is a good example, it has a modern steel roof, fresh paint and even the 3 lightning rods appear to be in good shape. If you are driving southeast on U.S. Route 63, it’s between Eddyville and Ottumwa (Iowa), on the left side of the highway at 200th Avenue. If you are headed NW on the highway, you will probably not see it.

Yesterday was very rainy in Des Moines, so my wife and I headed north. I was fortunately able to capture several scenes with some great cloudscapes (without ever getting wet). I had photographed this old building in Colo, Iowa before, but that shot had no real character and I never posted it.
Colo, Iowa is a small community located in Story County between Nevada and Marshalltown. I can’t find much information on this building, but it’s certainly interesting. Originally, the building was the Colo Saving Bank and Masonic Lodge, but the bank became insolvent in 1926 after a lawsuit. Zoom-in and look closely at the top of the building, the emblem “AF&AM” with the “G” and a compass stand for the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. At some point, the US Post Office took ownership of the building and I assume they likely got a pretty good deal.

A man and his son fishing at the Brushy Creek State Recreation Area in Webster County near Lehigh, Iowa. This State Park has the largest tract of public recreation land in the state and the lake is an extremely popular fishing spot with largemouth bass, crappie, walleye and catfish.

Just a bit of fun with a shot I took with the new camera on full zoom on its first day out.
Better viewed large and thank you for your favourites. :O)

Time is running out for this old barn just south of Hubbard, Iowa on U.S. Route 65. The roof has deteriorated so badly that the cupola is about to fall-in. It appears that part of the backside of the roof may already be gone.

A photo of the falls on the Iowa River at Steamboat Rock, Iowa. This small village of 264 people was originally named after a large rock on the river bluff, which is said to resemble several steamboats from a distance. However, floods later washed away the rock, but the name of the village lives on.

High-dynamic-range imaging (HDRI or HDR) is a set of techniques used in imaging and photography to reproduce a greater dynamic range of luminosity than possible using standard digital imaging or photographic techniques.
Strictly speaking, an HDR image is an intermediary image with 32 bits per color channel (96 bits per pixel). It has become very common to define "HDR image" as the result of processing the image with tone mapping, i.e. the tone mapped output, but this is not technically correct.

"I prefer winter and fall, when you feel the bone structure of the landscape - the loneliness of it, the dead feeling of winter.
Something waits beneath it, the whole story doesn't show." Andrew Wyeth
Dead leaves in the water promise food for the insects in spring; and the insects promise us the frogs that will sing out among the rushes, and remain invisible no matter how still I am waiting, waiting, waiting to see a frog.
Dang frogs.
My wife and I had finished a nice lunch at the Copper Lantern Grill in Sigourey, Iowa, and as we walked out the door we took this grand view of the Keokuk County Courthouse. Time check please… it was actually 12:30pm. The clock tower showed 6:10 and 7:35. No big deal, everyone has a cell phone, right?

Allianz Klassiker: "Tomatenstapel"
