Branches of a large Norfolk Island Pine in the middle of a large lawn, seen agant the front of the Frank Hayward House at Minda. These days, I actually work inside this building, and stepped outside at lunchtime to snap this picture.

Who doesn’t like a giant cow’s head with a crown atop it? I shot this some time back when I dropped off an old reciprocating saw for repair at the Makita Service Center nearby. When I brought it in, the repair tech was kind of pleased to see it—it's almost thirty years old and still in excellent condition. (I don’t use it much :-) I expected to leave it and come back another day, but he said, “Come back in a half hour.” I gave them a little more time, but when I returned a while later, it was all fixed. Not only that, he didn’t charge me for it! Good guys there.

During fall migration, which actually starts in early summer, hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of shorebirds make their way back to the San Francisco Bay Area. Every afternoon and evening Willets, Marbled Godwits, Black-bellied Plovers, Western and Least Sandpipers, and Red Knots congregate en masse on the mudflats of Frank's Dump and Oro Loma Marsh at the Hayward Shoreline.

Maybe my last view of the room where I spent my childhood, 1958-1969, and which was always known as my room- totally redecorated from when it was "my" room. So many memories in a room that no longer contains them.
