Shot from the road after a night of freezing fog

This second capture of Virginia Hawkins is sort of from the opposite side from the previous post. This little cascade in front here was on the far bottom left of the frame in the last photo. This cascade and all the other little cascades on this waterfall are so photogenic - just awesome in general! :) -H3

EXPLORED.

you know this is your biggest mistake, what a waste.

Took an out of town friend hiking to Virginia Hawkins Falls last Friday. With recent rains the flow was the best I've seen in awhile. That also made all the surrounding rocks very slippery.

This waterfall always reminds me of a more tropical location. Truly special.

The last time I visited Virginia Hawkins Falls was about four years ago. I wasn't overly impressed with it initially. Maybe it was because I was very much a beginner in photography and didn't see its potential. Maybe the flow was poor.

But on this day, I really liked it. Conditions were very favorable luckily.

The falls this day had a very tropical feel to it. The rocks were extremely slippery so footing was horrible. Staying off the moss was very important to me.

Overall, it was really a joy to photograph.

'Oh happy day (oh happy day)

Oh happy day (oh happy day)

When Jesus washed (when Jesus washed)

When Jesus washed (when Jesus washed)

When Jesus washed (when Jesus washed)

He washed my sins away (oh happy day)

Oh happy day (oh happy day)

He taught me how to watch, fight and pray, fight and pray

And live rejoicing every, everyday

Oh happy day'

Virginia Falls in a full view. What a great waterfall in good conditions, which is what I had this day. So much bright foliage and moss made it look almost tropical. Never would guess it's in upstate South Carolina.

Hawkins is a character of the Castle of Muskogee Renaissance, he preforms with a guitar and song, not bad at all.

Made another visit to Virginia Hawkins Falls this morning. After recent heavy rains, it was really looking good. Cloudy skies and no wind made conditions prime for photography.

I love all the rich foliage and bright moss on the rocks. The environment is almost tropical.

Virginia Hawkins Falls is located in South Carolina near the NC/SC border a bit south of Rosman, NC on US 178. See Google for exact directions. The hike is 1.4 miles and the trail is on a well maintained forest road most of the way.

The slope is deceiving on the way in but coming back it's uphill the whole way. The canopy is mostly open so go early on a cloudy day, preferably after some heavy rains.
