That brought to mind these words from "If We Only Have Love" by Jacques Brel:

I believe that fear and hatred of the "other," a stubborn insistence on seeing differences instead of commonality, underlie all wars, even those that seem spurred by economics. Will you join me in imagining a world where we only have love? Where we see "me" instead of "not-me"?

The great entrance gate of the Buddhist temple Zōjō-ji. The gate is really called a Sangedatsu Mon (三解脱門) and anyone passing through here can rid oneself of the three passions of greed, hatred and foolishness. The gate dates to 1622 and is the only building at the temple compound that survived the Second World War.
Zōjō-ji was founded in the 14th century - at another place but it was moved here in 1590. During the Edo period it was one of the two family temples of the Tokugawa family (the other being Kan'ei-ji) and you can find several of their graves here.The temple is the main temple of the Chinzei branch of Jōdo-shū Buddhism.
Tokyo Tower can be seen to the right and dates to 1958.
Hatred seems to be enveloping our world ... like a beast that has risen up from the dark recess of our existence ... what would we do, what would I DO, if I did not have nature to turn to to be reminded of gentleness and beauty!

Offer your love to those who deserve it, your hatred to those who deserve it, your indifference to all others....
What does it solve to admire a cat, to hear it purr, to kiss it's belly, to scratch it's chin, to have it rise slowly up and down on your chest in the wee hours of the night? Does it solve the problems of climate change, poverty, racism, ignorance, hatred, and violence overall? No..it does none of these things....so why do we keep cats? I think it gives us strength to try to solve these problems and do the right thing...because it helps us want to still exist in this world.
Every day with a cat is a better day. It is a day when you feel human and find that love within your heart and soul.
