This photo provides a pretty good illustration of why the GCFX "grey ghost" leasers were hated during their tenure on the CN. They came on the scene while there were plenty of great looking SD45s in operation. One quickly got the impression that any slight malfunction in a SD45 would sideline it and a GCFX would replace it. Eventually the last of the '45s were killed off. The GCFXs didn't seem to last too much longer once the "good" power was gone, but the damage was done, and some colorful lashups muted by the grey plague. March 8, 2003.

Canadians (and likely other winter residents as well) have a love hate relationship with the snow plow. It's great to have clear streets after a heavy snowfall but on the other hand, it's probably fair to say that everyone thinks the plow operator has a mean streak and takes particular delight with filling in the end of your driveway to make it impassible - especially when you've just cleared it all out.

It's nonsense, of course, but I'll bet it crossed your mind more then once when you're the one standing in the driveway and watching it happen.

Yesterday morning I had to be downtown for a job site visit at 500 W. Monroe. The guys start early for that particular job because of noise restrictions. I thought since I had to be there I might as well stop for sunrise photos at Fullerton Avenue.

I must have the worst luck when it comes to great lighting at sunrise because I’ve never been satisfied with nature’s morning light. Don’t get me wrong the light was decent, but I’m not sure it was worth standing outside for an hour in 9 degree lakefront weather. Which brings me to my solution for bad lighting. Well, not so much a solution as a way to justify the means to continue shooting. After walking to my location I realized that the lighting was going to be less than stellar, but I continued on despite my opinion. After arriving I went in with the mindset that I’d shoot with just composition in mind; for practice if not anything else.

Saw this on the way back to where we started. I hate graffiti, it is everywhere. It really serves no purpose other than to destroy..............

Herring Cove Provincial Park reserve begins from a parking lot with a great coastal view. This area is actually a reserve and has a 1.5km (1 mi) stretch of coastline to hike on.

The views here are as good as anywhere in the province. It is a typical coastal landscape, similar to Peggy’s Cove or Duncan’s Cove, and similar to those areas, there are no maintained trails.

A great place to see ships of all types coming and going from Halifax Harbour.

Kp index was a 4 if I remember correctly

This was taken where I was staying for a couple of night. I seemed to have struck gold as the weather held out for the majority of my trip. The building was an old fish warehouse the looked to be abandoned and into the distance is the small town of Seydisfjordur.

I can imagine the town used to be a busy little fishing community but now seems to rely heavily on tourism.

Still picturesque in it own little way.
