Hatty, shoot me that Blue Steel!

Edit: Big thank you to everybody who helped get this pic Explored!

I thought the concept of The Hatbox Ghost was lovely, and I took photos on the ride when I saw him, but I didn't think he was going to be a big deal for me until I started going through my photos. He looks so sinister. I love it!

Sometimes timing is everything. Like when the playful spooks are up to no good and it stops the ride right in front of the Hatbox Ghost. Actually Kyle was right in front of it but I still had a pretty good angle from the buggy next to him.

Instead choosing which photo to use, head on or in box, I decided on both.

The legend is back! The Hatbox Ghost made his return this past Saturday. I rode Saturday night (after the crowds and weight had totally died down) and got three rides. Unfortunately, none of them placed me right in front of the character when the effect happen, so I only have perfectly crisp shots of "Hattie" in regular position. Oh well, motivation to go back!

The name reflects the fact that I don't think I will ever be completely satisfied with any of my Hatbox Ghost photos. I guess it is a good thing that I like to ride the Haunted Mansion.

It's the one-thousandth happy haunt that the Haunted Mansion has been waiting a long time for! Hats off to him, everybody!

Yesterday, I braved the Haunted Mansion with one goal in mind: to see the infamous Hatbox Ghost. Our dear friend has recently come out of hiding for the 60th anniversary of Disneyland and also the 45th anniversary of the Haunted Mansion, and I'm thrilled. He looks suitably scary, and makes a wonderful addition to the mansion. Although his placement was a little tricky, as I'm horribly afraid of Constance, who you come face to face with just moments before you meet our new friend. This made shooting a bit of a challenge, but I was able to stay strong and walk away with this pretty clean shot.

Thanks so much for your views, comments, and favorites!

As far as we know, we've never seen a three-dimensional figure based on Campbell's Haunted Mansion illustrations, so this may very well be the first. Our 8-1/4" tall ghost was cast from my sculpture and then hand-painted by Jody in Collin Campbell's illustrative style, with fiber "hair" added. The maquette stands on a wooden base made of antique weathered barn wood, in a glass bell jar. When viewed through the wavy glass, the figure takes on a mildly distorted appearance that makes him even more ghostly.

My first time on the Disneyland version of the Haunted Mansion & attempting to capture the Hatbox Ghost. I'd never watched any videos as not to spoil the attraction especially with the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay, so he snuck up on me. I used my 35mm 1.8 but definitely feel I should've gone wider. I fired off a bunch of shots in bracket mode in 1 stop increments since I was unsure of what exposure to use due to the changing lighting throughout the attraction. Surprisingly my 1/80th base was the one that was almost spot on. Sadly though I caught the face as it was changing so it's not the cleanest look. Besides that & the composition, I can't really complain for a first time.

Really into the Hatbox Ghost. Played with this for a bit this morning. Loved how I got a bit more detail in his face.

Isn’t this a handsome face? This is one of the more bizarre “paint masters” by Jody Daily, created in 2005 for our Disneyland “Hatbox Ghost” Big Figure. The Chinese factory that manufactured the figurine used this color sample as a guide in painting every face in the entire edition. This is an important step in production, and Jody and I have literally painted hundreds of paint masters over the years.

Note the gold tooth. Yep, the Mansion's actual Hatbox Ghost had one!

Happy Friday the 13th, LiveJournalers! I can't see the IHeartTattoos post that linked you here but I hope it was nice. :-)

This was an unexpected ride and I only had the slower zoom lens on my camera. Most of the photos were terrible but since this was the first time I had seen the Hat Box Ghost with his head in the box, I cranked up the ISO. My hope was Lightroom Classic's AI Noise Reduction could make the image usable. While far from perfect, I think this came out okay for sharing on the Internet.

Oh, Happy Halloween!!!!

The Haunted Mansion is an attraction located at Disneyland, the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Park in Paris (as Phantom Manor). Each incarnation of the attraction features a ride-through tour of a haunted house in Omnimover vehicles called Doom Buggies, preceded by a walk-through show in the queue. The attraction showcases a number of age-old tricks, advanced special effects, and spectral Audio-Animatronics.

After eluding my DSLR time and time again some how my Sony RX-100 III managed to nab Mr. Hatbox while he had his head on his shoulders.

I wasn't aware that Disney added the Hat Box Ghost to the Haunted Mansion so I was surprised when we turned the corner and he was there.

"This is my submission for the Spooktacular 2010 costume contest. It is of the "'Hatbox Ghost' from Disney's Haunted Mansion. I made the ENTIRE costume myself using my own patterns etc. The ENTIRE costume was airbrushed by me to give it that ghostly green/blue look (It glows in the dark too!). The required Costume Contest logo is taped to the hatbox I am holding. Thanks for looking, and YOU ROCK SIDESHOW!!!"
