At the seaside village of Kala Nera on the Pelion peninsula there takes place an annual event on Ascension Day, where horses from nearby villages arrive to be dipped in the sea and to be blessed by the priest

At the seaside village of Kala Nera on the Pelion peninsula there takes place an annual event on Ascension Day, where horses from nearby villages arrive to be dipped in the sea and to be blessed by the priest. It was also an opportunity for kids to just spash about alongside the horses.

Iordanis is a travelling musician who arrives at our neighbourhood, a residential area, every Sunday. In an old-fashioned way, he walks along the streets playing some popular pieces with residents often going out to greet him and reward him for brightening up their day.

On the day of Ashura Shi’ite communities around the world commemorate their martyr and 3rd Imam Hussein, grandson of Muhammad, through different acts of collective sorrowful chanting, chest beating, collective crying and self-flagellation.
