As I was driving through Wapiti Valley, west of Cody Wyoming, I saw a whole herd of elk running across a pasture. Then I spied the reason. Two people in a side by side trying to herd them. Part of the herd broke off and crossed the road but most keep running in the pasture with the UTV in pursuit. The elk picked up their pace and did an end around their pursuers. The two people then broke off from the chase. Maybe because they gave up or maybe because they saw me setting up my camera along the fence line on US 20-14-16.
This is another shot of the altercation I witnessed between a Raven and White-tailed Eagle on Mull.
Thank you all for your kind responses.
The Australian magpie (Gymnorhina tibicen) is a medium-sized black and white passerine bird native to Australia and southern New Guinea. Although once considered to be three separate species, it is now considered to be one, with nine recognised subspecies. A member of the Artamidae, the Australian magpie is placed in its own genus and is most closely related to the black butcherbird (Melloria quoyi). Currawongs have yellow eyes, whereas Magpies have red-brown eyes and Butcherbirds have very dark brown, almost black eyes. It is not, however, closely related to the European magpie, which is a corvid. The adult Australian magpie is a fairly robust bird ranging from 37 to 43 cm in length, with distinctive black and white plumage, gold brown eyes and a solid wedge-shaped bluish-white and black bill. The male and female are similar in appearance, and can be distinguished by differences in back markings. The male has pure white feathers on the back of the head and the female has white blending to grey feathers on the back of the head. With its long legs, the Australian magpie walks rather than waddles or hops and spends much time on the ground. Described as one of Australia's most accomplished songbirds, the Australian magpie has an array of complex vocalisations. It is omnivorous, with the bulk of its varied diet made up of invertebrates. It is generally sedentary and territorial throughout its range. Common and widespread, it has adapted well to human habitation and is a familiar bird of parks, gardens and farmland in Australia and New Guinea. This species is commonly fed by households around the country, but in spring (and occasionally in autumn) a small minority of breeding magpies (almost always males) become aggressive and swoop and attack those who approach their nests. 65716
Apparently the Red-shouldered Hawk was enjoying its snake dinner at the Northern Mockingbird's reserved table. The hawk eventually tired of the pesky mocker, departing for a digestif at an open-air bar by the water.

Seagull/Silver Gull
The silver gull (Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae) is the most common gull of Australia. It has been found throughout the continent, but particularly at or near coastal areas.
It is known colloqually for its harrassment of people eating chips.
A GOLDEN-RINGED DRAGONFLY WITH COMMON BLUE DAMSELFLY
These pesky blue damselflies seem to love dicing with death by harrassing big dragonflies! But this male Golden-ringed just shrugged them off.
Found this lil one feeding on the grasses that surrounded a small pond in the interior of Alaska. The cow moose was feeding on the vegitation under the water about 20 yards away from the calf. Watching the calf, it was evident that it was afraid of the water. It would walk forward towards its mother only to stop and retreat back to the grasses. Moose often times will be found feeding in ponds on the vegitation that grows below the surface. It gives the moose a break from the constant harrassment from mosquitoes. Often times, the back legs of a moose will be bloody from all of the mosquitoe and fly bites that it receives. Moose have baffles in their noses so when they go underwater to feed, they do not inhale water through their noses.
The look on this cow's face, to me, sums up the day this photo was taken. It was a cool summer evening and the rain was falling with big drops and the drops were very cold. This cow moose was in a small pond, enjoying the vegetation from the bottom of the pond. The moose like to eat in ponds because it gives them a respite from the constant harrassment of the mosquitoes.
She sure was soaked, as was the photographer.
The four wing spots give this species its name; the wings also have a large brown patch at base. Both sexes are similar with brown bodies tapering to a black tip. Identification difficulty Habitat It prefers well-vegetated water with lots of submerged and emergent plants. When to see it It flies from mid May to mid August.
Sexually active males are highly territorial and select a prominent perch over-looking the water to look for females, other males and prey. Females perch away from water to avoid harrassment by the males, only venturing to the water when they are ready to deposit eggs. This is a wandering species and may migrate long distances.
This species favors well- vegetation. Such a specific habitat preference means that the Four-spotted Chaser is another species with a rather local and scattered distribution within VC 55. It breeds in suitable ponds, pools, lakes, canals and occasionally slow-flowing rivers. Reference to historic records suggests that this species has increased in its abundance in recent years, particularly since the 1980s; prior to this period it had been recorded from very few sites.

In Llangollon North Wales over 5000 bikers met to protest about police harrassment. Horseshoe pass was massed with wall to wall bikes.... amazing. This is a slow drive-by shot. in the video below I am sure its my car briefy shown at time 1min .35.sec

This is a popular hangout for Eagles, so this interaction was quite interesting. The Eagle did depart, but not in response to this harrassment.

Three crows took turns dive-bombing this Osprey, named 'Lacey' for a good half hour. This is my second year watching the Union Bay ospreys 'Chester' and 'Lacey'.
The Union bay Natural Area was bulldozed last summer. The disturbed ground, and destroyed underbrush has created an excellent habitat for crows. I'm nervous the much larger crow population will harm the Osprey's ability to rear chicks.
The blog, unionbaywatch.blogspot.com/ chronicles the lives of the animals I visit regularly, including a lot of detail on the lives of Chester and Lacey, it's very well written, and has great photography.
this girl was perched on a light pole, but was read the riot act by a mocking bird. the mocking bird was pretty "ballsy" even swooping at the hawks head at times. she seemed to tire of the harrassment and retied to this tree for a while.
Solo sette amministrazioni locali (Veneto, Piemonte, Puglia, Sardegna e Sicilia, Firenze e Pistoia) fanno sapere in modo chiaro e trasparente come stanno utilizzando i fondi.
Terns, being good fisherbirds (is that a word?) are sometimes harassed by gulls to give up their catch. Elegant Tern, Thalasseus elegans, and Heerman's Gull, Larus Heermanni.
A day that is joyous for some and heartbreaking for others. The capitalist world always seems to forget there are two sides to a day like today.
So, I offer this flower and chocolates to you if you are finding today hard. If today brings heartache and sorrow. I offer these to those who yearn to be a mother, but can't. To those estranged from their mum or children for whatever reason. To those who have lost their mum or lost their child. I hear your pain on this day and send love.
I also offer this flower and chocolates to any who mother and care. These people come in so many guises. Teachers, youth leaders, friends, neigbours and so many others.
Also to adoptive mums. To step mums. To foster mums. To single mums, to single dads. To all LGBT+ parents. Those who culture is pushing back against at the moment who just deserve to live their lives and care for their children without harrassment.
Whoever you are and whoever you care for I am sending this to you today.
I really wanted to go and tell these crows to knock it off. Lacey and Chester, the Ospreys that live in this park provide plenty of scraps for crows when they go fishing. Also Ospreys are extremely aggressive toward bald eagles which eat crow chicks and eggs.
And I try to realize
That I needn't look any further
the whole of the universe
Is plain to see
And I try not to rely
On another world or the future
The whole of the universe is a mystery
hey flickr. i am so ANGRY right now. it's 5:04 am and i still can't sleep. i have a thousand things to do by tomorrow am and a lot on my mind. work's just piling up and i have some major personal problems that i have to deal with. i don't know when this'll be over, but when it does end i'm going over to pepe's or at a ktv and down a pitcher of margarita. or two.
i have so much to rant about, but i have no words. maybe sometime soon i'd be able to express some of these pent up (whatever it is).
sorry for the very long, senseless description.
just letting off some steam.
St Mark's Square in Venice is famed for the Campanile, the Doge's Palace and.... and of course the pigeons. Here a young lady has paid a Euro for a packet of bird seed and found herself flocked by pigeons.

Thanks to you two for the love & harrassment!
Wow.
Being tagged is fun & quick.
16 Things took some time.
Set aside 5 minutes or so.
Get comfy.
Here goes.
1. Brushes w/ Fame.
Held a door open for Laurie Anderson at a Borders Bookstore. She didn't say thanks.
Held a Starbucks door for local resident MC Hammer. He said "thanks man" & was quite friendly. He held the door open for me a couple of years later at 7-11.
Got some interesting advice from a fave local DJ at career night in High School. Lori Thompson. She said "Don't become a DJ". I said "What?" She said "the benies suck and there's no retirement. Plus unless you have folks that will pay your way until you are in your mid 20's...forget about it". She also said that free records and concerts don't make up for lousy wages and hours. She then gave me a free copy of U2's Where the Streets Have No Name 12" LP. I was very close to going to broadcasting school until that conversation.
In 4th grade I went to my 1st Comic Con. I was completely and utterly shocked when I bumped into Checkov and he didn't speak in a russian accent! Then... get this ....he wouldn't sign my Star Trek Golden Key comic book! He said you have to pay for those in the Star Trek Room and stand in a long line. "Sorry kid" he said and then walked away in his denim shirt and brown corduroys.
Crushed and dejected by Star Trek people I turned my attention to Star Wars as my Science fiction of choice from then on!
2. Long beards are instant conversation starters.
I can be just about any place and someone will walk across the room to "BeardTalk".
Most common questions:
Does it itch?
How long did it take to grow?
Does your lady like it?
How do you wash that?
& my personal fave...
Want 5 dollars to go get yourself something to eat?
3. Jobs.
Paper Route. Arby's Roast Beef. Round Table Pizza. Kay Bee Toys. Wherehouse Record Store. Front Desk at a Comedy Traffic School.
20 Years w/ "the Phone Company".
Started a week out of high school as a 411 info operator.
Ironic!
I hate talking on the phone. Don't even have a cell.
4. Current Pet Peeve.
Seeing people throw their money on the counter even when the cashier has their hand out. Makes me want to slap people! I can totally remember how that makes you feel beneath the person paying. Be nice to each other. It's not that hard.
5. Current Unexplained Quirk.
When I get to the counter to pay....I always have to fight the urge to sneeze. Not sure why but it happens a lot.
Wacky.
6. Million Dollar Ideas.
Nerf Cars. No accidents would hurt. You could even drive off cliffs. Fender bender? More like Fender Bounce!
Had a dream about "ZICKEN".
Yes that's right.... zesty chicken is "ZICKEN".
In the dream I sold it to KFC and made big bank.
Ha! If only.
7. More Irony.
I dig Tiki...but I'm allergic to artificial colors. That pretty much ruins any really cool looking Tiki drink. Plus... I can not pull off the floral shirt look.
I can tell you where I was & who I was with when I heard any song.
Going way back.
But I can't remember where Dana told me to put the new bread knife we just got yesterday.
8. Won't wear my wedding ring.
It's a personal protest against married people who are up in arms about the sanctity of marriage. I say "Love the one you're with".
9. Food.
Someone has to tell me what something is before I can taste it.
Much hilarity in our kitchen throughout the years.
Chow to avoid upon being bearded.
Ribs.
Anything w/ peanut butter.
Soup.
Cake.
I once was at a kiddie party talking to one of the moms there. We were talking for a bit when she kept staring at my beard. It was uncomfortable. Turns out later I passed a mirror and there lo and behold was a bit of cake. Nice.
Now at parties I stick close to people I can trust.
10. Monkeys.
I like cartoon-y monkees. Not real ones. The ones in the zoo give me the willies. I always think they are going to turn around and say "what are you looking at Beardie?".
Planet of the Apes scares me.... for it's realism.
11. Late shift.
I work by myself at night in big noisy dark buildings w/ lots of moving machinery.
I had to stop watching scary movies. The imagination really comes out to play in this environment.
12. Music.
There is a large gaping hole in my heart where Tower Records used to be.
So much time spent there. Browsing. People would come up to me all the time and ask what section things were in. I always helped.
I am a recovered CD addict.
& before that it was LP's.
I've always enjoyed the B-side.
Usually more interesting than some of the albums tracks.
Some all time greats in no particular order:
Secret October - Duran Duran
New Day - The Cure
The Big Chair - Tears For Fears
Walk to the Water- U2
Sea of Sin - Depeche Mode
I Burn For You - The Police
You're No Good - Elvis Costello
The Loop - Morrissey
13. Toys.
When I was a wee laddie I wished for a house that I could hang Star Wars figures from the ceiling. It's been a reality now.
King Norman's World Of Toys got all my birthday money growing up.
All GI JOE stuff. I know... suprise, suprise.
A real kicker? I actually own stock in Hasbro.
14. The Supernatural.
Seen Ghosts. Cats & people.
Seen U.F.O.s too.
As a kid my Dad used to say "look for Bigfoot" when we'd travel on twisty roads to keep me from getting car sick. Sadly, still no Yeti or Bigfoot sighted as of yet.
15. Self Help.
When I get in a deep funk I pull out the only self help book I'll ever need:
"Get Happy Damn it!"
It totally works.
Humor is the best medicine.
16. Family.
My family is small but I consider myself extremely lucky for such a great one.
I met Dana at the mall.
16 years and 15 of them married.
Love at 1st sight can happen.
We got married at a restaurant right on the edge of the coast.
It was a grey foggy day but we didn't care.
Dana's Mom and her best friend threw birdseed at us as we were walking out.
The doctor told me that it was the 1st bird seed he'd ever pulled out of an ear.
Being a Dad is ultimately cooler than I'd imagined.
Little people are a rollercoaster of bumps and bruises & laughter and tears.
It's an amazing experience. Always suprising and new.
My cats act like dogs.
They bark and pout and are just scrappy.
My dog acts like a cat.
She's aloof and really shy.
Well that was a trip.....!
I've read some great 16 things in some of your 'streams in months past.
But...
I'd really enjoy learning 16 things about Dana, Skip, Josh, Dani, Penny, Bumbles, Lamont, Harry, Javi, Pow, One Crazy, & Shrewder. Anyone else wanna throw down some things? Do it!!
Take a bit & Try it!
Now.....Give me some commenting comments!
Feedback? Anything hit home? Anything in particular crack you up?
saturday in the mission. a break in the storm, and the light was wonderful. haven't been sleeping well because i think i got ringworm from the cats and my poor beseiged sensitive skin has been itching and welting and my nerve endings have been shrieking in distress 24/7 for a week.
one of the only things that helps is physical activity/distraction, so i went for an atypical morning walk.
you know, if sex for sale was legal, women like myself who aren't in the biz - but happen to like to walk the streets along with those who do - wouldn't have to put up with such infuriating harrassment from guys driving around looking for it.
late night or early morning, it's the same scene. minding my own business as cars pass slowly, often blocking my path across a street. windows roll down, men stare, call out or whistle, gesture or wink. and i'm forced to notice, have to look them in the eye in order to indicate i'm not open for business.
this is only accomplished by sorta kinda having to get mad about it - glaring, frowning, shaking my head "no" and looking away with disdain or dismissal in order not to give mixed messages. you know, like, if i was neutral or pleasant about it and smiled while shaking my head, and they thought that was license to keep at it until i just give in or something? because that's just how women are, saying no when they really secretly mean yes?
oh yeah, back to the photo.
so not only do i rarely see any non-tourists taking photos in the city, i honest-to-goodness have never before seen a woman, and an older one at that - even older than me - snapping away - and joyfully so.
she was so delighted to find this battered, battle-fatigued once-umbrella lying there that she spent 5 minutes or so photo'ing it from every which way, a constant smile on her face and an animation to her movements that made it hard to catch her still enough for a moment to capture this shot myself.
and she never noticed me, didn't pay no never-mind to anyone looking her way.
made my day.
Lakeside Amusement Park, Denver, CO.
This was once a great family fun park with a long history to the Denver area. Back when my children were small, I came here with my 35mm film SLR to enjoy the park and capture those precious family memories. Unfortunately times change, and during the last few visits I've been hassled for photography in the park, which obviously keeps me from going back very often. It seems that SLRs are now becoming a target for prejudice as anyone is free to use that cell phone, tiny pocket camera, or even any hidden/surveillance devices without fear of being confronted by park staff. But it does make you wonder what evils they must be trying to hide?
According to Wikipedia, "spring fever is a term applied to several sets of physical and psychological symptoms associated with the arrival of spring. In general it refers to an increase in energy, vitality and particularly sexual appetite." This, of course, is often confused with cabin fever, defined by the same reliable source as "an idiomatic term...for a claustrophobic reaction that takes place when a person or group is isolated and/or shut in a small space, with nothing to do for an extended period. Cabin fever describes the extreme irritability and restlessness a person may feel in these situations." Apart from the sexual appetite part, which I have no way of gauging accurately, I can assert without doubt that the above-pictured creature is exhibiting every symptom of both maladies and any other theoretically induced by the vernal equinox. In addition to those behaviors already cited, there is almost non-stop meowing, pacing, scratching, looking out the window for weather changes every five minutes, and other owner/partner harrassments adding another dimension to the standard desire for the arrival of a spring delayed far too long...clearly for feline and human alike.
[Thanks to vintage findings for the texture...told you I would use one some day, Karen... ]
Another fine example of London's Brutalist architecture, this is the Trellick Tower in west London, in the Westbourne Park area.
Designed by the Hungarian architect Ernő Goldfinger and completed in 1972, it seems to be just as divisive a design as most of the rest of London's notable Brutalist buildings.
Originally social housing, and it contains many units that are still of that category, but also has some privately-owned flats which are pretty sought-after due to this buildings iconic status.
Tricky to photograph from up close due to its height, but I think my tilt shift lens did a pretty good job of capturing it in a single frame.
I did feel slightly uneasy standing there with my camera though as I was drawing suspicious looks from various people walking past. It definitely felt like the kind of area in which if I'd have hung around much longer photographing the tower I would have been risking harrassment.
An interesting article about Brutalist architecture in modern London can be read here:

Having Kenny's sister Wing Yee with us in Marrakech was a blessing. She is extremely organised and took us to see many things that I - preferring to wander around and leave what happens to chance - would probably never have seen alone. Assertive and no-nonsense, she made sure we wasted no time and didn't stand for any harrassment by the locals.
It didn't take long for the dynamic of Wing Yee as mother and Kenny and me as children to arise. I enjoyed this, and winding her up reminded me of being on holiday as a child and tormenting my Mum with my sister.
