La capital de Islandia se aleja de la imagen propia de las urbes europeas. Reykjavik (bahía humeante), además de ser la capital más septentrional del mundo, es la más reciente, pues su establecimiento data de finales del siglo XIX. A pesar del significado de su nombre, ahora se la conoce como la ciudad sin humo, gracias a sus vientos incesantes y al uso de calefacción geotérmica.

 

Reykjavik posee todos los atractivos de una metrópoli europea moderna, además de un relevante centro histórico, con edificios de madera encalados e hileras de casas de hormigón pintadas de vivos colores. Desde su casco urbano se puede acceder a pie a la mayoría de puntos de interés turístico.

Harpa is a concert hall and conference centre in Reykjavík. The structure consists of a steel framework clad with geometric shaped glass panels of different colours. Harpa was designed by the Danish firm Henning Larsen Architects in co-operation with Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson.

Harpa er eitt helsta kennileiti Reykjavíkur og er miðstöð menningar og mannlífs í hjarta miðborgarinnar, þar sem hún stendur tignarleg við hafnarbakkann. Harpa er áfangastaður ferðamanna og margverðlaunað listaverk sem 3 milljónir manna hafa heimsótt frá opnun, 4. maí 2011.
