A movie that uses the supernatural and turns it into one huge Joke that facinated my Children.

That limbo between Christmas and next Halloween, I tend to watch a lot of summery movies. Camp, high school comedies, buddy cop movies, baseball movies etc. Movies that remind me of being a kid, watching movies at home during the summer.

Last summer I had a hankering to revisit “In the Army Now”. I loved it as a kid, but hadn’t seen it for more than a decade. Possibly 20 years. I didn’t wanna wait to find it in the wild, so I ended up ordering a copy on eBay. Of course, I found a copy at Goodwill yesterday (I still got it, though)

I knew I would likely still enjoy it, but was kinda shocked how truly great it was. Like the Houston Post comment on the cover says, it’s genuinely funny. Like...honestly a great comedy. Unfairly overlooked when considering classic comedies.

It has all the ingredients and feels of the movies my generation grew up watching and obsessed over. It just didn’t have Bill Murray or John Candy or Dan Aykroyd or Rick Moranis etc. So I feel it gets overlooked or passed on, because it’s “Pauly Shore”.

But here’s the thing...he’s great in it (I’ve always been a fan, though). Andy Dick is awesome too. And you can’t forget David Alan Grier...he’s so good.

The parallels between this and “Stripes” can’t be denied. They’ve swapped out Murray and Ramis and replaced them with Shore and Dick, and it takes place in the army. But that’s kind of where the similarities end. In my opinion, this movie is world’s better than Stripes. Which falls flat...HARD, after the first half. Often times I stop watching it after they graduate, because the movie turns into a whole different film, and is almost unwatchable. Whereas “In the Army Now” is consistently fun and amusing all the way through. And it’s got a ton of heart, too.

Anyway...if you haven’t seen this one, and are about my age...track a copy down. It’s a hell of a good comedy.

Also, I always loved the (almost unnoticeable) cameo at the very end with @keithcoogan...who let’s face it, is basically playing his classic Kenny character from Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead.

Go buy this one.

Watching one of my fall favorites, "Back to School". Did you know that Dr. Turner lives in the Doyle's house from "Halloween"?...Now you do.

It was rumoured in August that BRIDESMAIDS and THE HEAT director Paul Feig was being touted as potential director for GHOSTBUSTERS 3 or a least some sort of GHOSTBUSTERS reboot centred on an all-female crew ready to strap on the proton packs. Well, that is now official after Feig’s ...

I'm the best thing that's ever happened to you? Now I'm starting to feel a little sorry for you.

If there's something strange in your neighborhood... Who ya gonna call?

Would you believe there are no HD screen caps of this scene on the Internet, or HD YouTube clips? I had to pop in my Blu-ray and take a photo of the TV. Haha.

Sorry, I am one of those "haters" who thinks this whole remake nonsense is totally awful. Not only because it's EXTREMELY pointless to remake a STILL relevant film, but to dumb it down with Exorcist and "that's gonna leave a mark" jokes, is just insulting. Not to mention the awful awful CGI, which looks more like clips from a video game. The original Ghostbusters came out 32 years ago this month, and the comedy and special effects are bounds better than one made today. I'll compare it to the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Mikey even has an erection joke. I give up.

I just don't see how thinking something that is a piece of shit, is a piece of shit, is being a "hater". Oh well.

Casting Har Mar Superstar in Ghostbusters 3

I conducted an interview with musician/writer/actor Sean Tillmann (aka: Har Mar Superstar) back in January, in which we spoke of the rumors behind a new Ghostbusters film (now confirmed). I then asked Tillmann if it was something that he would be interested in being a part of, to which he responded,

"Oh, to be in Ghostbusters 3? It would be amazing. Yes, of course! Are you casting me?"

Of course I was not, but the plan became to get the concept that he was going to be cast out into the ether with the hopes that it would manifest itself into reality. That didn't exactly work, but now that I've brought up the possibility of such dreams, it's time for a little follow through. Since, these days, it has become perfectly clear that the only way to efficiently make a point or to get anything accomplished is to create a FACEBOOK page, here it is.

You loved him in Whip It!, in his Crappy Holiday film shorts, and as "Dancin' Rick" in Starsky as Hutch. With your help, perhaps we will love him in Ghostbusters 3 as "Moranis’ son or like… sidekick?" or something...

January 2009

I always hate drawing more than one person in a doodle, mostly because I just start drawing and if I make a mistake, I’ve goofed up the whole thing. You have no idea how nervous I get when I’m doodling the last person in the photo, mostly because there’s a lot of pressure to not jack it all up – especially if I’m pretty happy with how it’s going so far.

This one was a bit different, as I ended up doodling the guys in a simpler, almost Saturday-morning cartoon style. I realize they did indeed make Ghostbusters into a Saturday-morning cartoon, but hopefully this doodle looks at least a little better.
