taken last night while dad was washing dishes...he'll spend hours washing dishes and wiping down the kitchen counters....he takes great pride in his work and is always asking me to come see how he's done...
his other fave activities are sweeping the porch, raking leaves, watering the yard and flowers...but it is too cold outside for that now...I'm happy he still enjoys doing these simple tasks...even watching tv can be a struggle at times as he can't follow the plots much these days...but mom has music shows and music playing alot on the tv, and that really perks him up- he likes to sing along and dance...

is the Japanese Buddhist and Shinto Festival of Broken Needles, celebrated on February 8 in the Kanto region.
The practice began four hundred years ago as a way for housekeepers and professional needle-workers to acknowledge their work over the past years and respect their tools. In the animist traditions, items as well as humans, animals, plants, and objects are considered to have souls. This festival acknowledged the good given to people by their tools and simple, everyday items.

The purpose of the ~ Usnisa Vijaya Dharani~ sūtra is said to be to help sentient beings in a troubled and tumultuous world. According to this sūtra, beings will leave suffering and obtain happiness, increasing in their prosperity and longevity, remove karmic obstacles, eliminate disasters and calamities, remove enmity and hatred, fulfill all wishes, and quickly be led onto the Buddha's way. It is held by some that when the dhāraṇī is heard, it can imbue the alaya consciousness (base consciousness—all of our memories, ideas, and desires) with pure seeds that will help to lead one to buddhahood.

Something expressively enigmatic with the words mata hari. Think of the legendary Javanese-Dutch dancer who became the stuff of espionage legend.
Etymologically, mata means the eye in Indonesian, Malay, Cebuano or Tagalog. With hari the word for day in Indonesian, mata hari literally is the sun in indonesian. Interestingly, hari means differently in the Philippine dialects where it stands for king. Surely, the sun can be the Royal Eye.

Margaretha Geertruida "Margreet" MacLeod (née Zelle; 7 August 1876 – 15 October 1917), better known by the stage name Mata Hari, was a Dutch exotic dancer and courtesan who was convicted of being a spy for Germany during World War I and executed by firing squad in France.

Zelle was executed by a firing squad of 12 French officers just before dawn on 15 October 1917. She was 41.
According to an eyewitness account by British reporter Henry Wales, she was not bound and refused a blindfold. She defiantly blew a kiss to the firing squad.
