One of the only days we got any sun, on our recent visit to Northumberland. This shot was taken from a slightly different position, not so close to the water's edge and incoming tide. I like the way the water's edge is almost total white. Like those cotton wool clouds have fallen from the sky!
The Grade 1 listed Ashton Memorial was commissioned by Lancaster industrialist Lord Ashton as a tribute to his late wife Jessy. It was designed by John Belcher and completed in 1909.
Externally, the dome is made of copper. The main construction material is Portland stone although the steps are made of Cornish granite.
Around the dome are sculptures by Herbert Hampton representing Commerce, Science, Industry and Art. The interior of the dome has allegorical paintings of Commerce, Art and History by George Murray.
At around 150 feet tall it dominates the Lancaster skyline. The first floor outdoor viewing gallery provides superb views of the surrounding countryside and out across Morecambe Bay to the Lakeland fells and mountains.
We waited a while for the tide to recede before attempting to get onto Meols Beach on the Wirral. It can be rather a dangerous place, if you don't know the tides. You also have to be careful of certain areas of the sands too.
One of the local boat owners directed us across an area of water to the right.
Meols has some wonderful boats, with great opportunities for Photographers.
This one is called Proper Job.
I luv the chain, which gives a nice lead in.
This capture was taken mid-day so I used an ND Grad filter to balance the sky, along with the Lee Big Stopper. This was to try and add a little movement to the sky.
A golden hour capture with a little sun might have given a nicer image but Im quite pleased with this one.
A South bound CSX Freight train led by an EMD SD70 MAC clears Ashland, VA. Remains of Winter storm Jonas is seen.
One of the Blythe pipe captures from the last time I was out.
I hadn't anticipated the sun being so far round but managed to capture its light reflecting on the pipe. A 30sec LE gave a misted effect to the water. At a glance you can just about see St Marys Lighthouse in the distance to the right.

An Olympic class Ferry, either the Samish, Suquamish, Chimacum or Tokitae, leaves Seattle probably headed to Bainbridge Island, Bremerton or Vashon Island. One of many ferries that service Seattle harbor, here on Elliot Bay it passes the anchored Norient, Nord Steady, a chemical, oil tanker which flies the Singapore flag.
The Washington state DOT chooses names for ferries, bridges, etc. that are taken from local indigenous tribes or cultures of the area, each has a special meaning. Samish " Giving People ", Chimacum, " Tribe's Gathering Place " , Suquamish, "People Of The Clear Salt Water " and Tokitae, coast sailish dialect for " Nice Day; Pretty Colors "
Thats the insides!
And I literally poured out the water lol!
It was an unusually high tide down at Steetley on Wednesday morning and it gave me the opportunity to include the wooden remains, which are often covered in sand at the top of the beach. I thought they gave a good lead in and foreground interest.
The sea was really powerful and as always I got caught out by the freak wave coming much higher and much bigger, than expected, hence the wellies full of water.
It took me several goes before I finally captured this shot, due to movement of the tripod.
God luvs a trier :)
This image was taken during a walk along the beach & I had just finished this beer so I decided to take a portrait of the empty bottle. It was only a short walk to find a full replacement bottle! This is my favorite beer in Cuba & the reason for my name on flickr & my email address!
Please enjoy this image as I had enjoyed the beer!
Early one October morning before the sun had warmed enough to wake the bees and dry the dew. Happy Smile on Saturday!

Intha Lake fishermen, renowned for their distinctive technique, navigate the waterways with a remarkable leg-rowing style. Perched at the stern of their slender wooden boats, these skilled fishermen balance on one leg while the other is wrapped around the oar. With a synchronized motion, they propel the boat forward, their arms free to manage the intricacies of the conical nets. This unique technique, evolved over generations, allows them to navigate the lake's shallow waters, where reeds and floating gardens abound. Their dexterity extends to the handling of the conical nets, an artful craft passed down through ancestral knowledge. With precision and grace, they manipulate these nets using a circular motion, skillfully casting them into the water to ensnare the abundant fish that thrive in Inle Lake's rich ecosystem. The harmony between their rowing and net handling embodies a tradition that not only sustains their livelihood but also stands as a testament to their cultural heritage and intimate relationship with the lake.
