Washington DC, The West Lawn Of The U.S. Capitol, the evening of April 21, 2015. Around 2,000 social justice activists associated with #MARCH2JUSTICE and friends gathered here for a rally against police violence, especially egregious against communities of color. The star studded rally with speeches and music was the culmination of a nine day 250 mile march by around 100 Justice League NYC supporters through five states from Staten Island New York to Washington DC. It was my pleasure to meet and photograph these lovely folks in Baltimore, Beltsville and at the Capitol.

Wanda's son Oscar Grant was shot in the back and killed by BART Transit Policeman Johannes Mehserle at Fruitvale Station in Oakland, California on January 1, 2009. Officer Mehserle was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter. Wanda is a gospel minister and a prominent activist for reform of the criminal justice system.

Around twenty five hundred social justice activists gathered at Mount Vernon Square for a rally and march to protest the failure of the St. Louis County, Missouri Grand Jury to indict Officer Darren Wilson for the killing of unarmed black teenager Mike Brown. The marchers blocked several intersections for brief periods of time and occupied the H Street Walmart Superstore for about fifteen minutes. The nearly two hour long march ended on the steps of the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery. Interactions between the marchers and police were testy at times but there were no arrests I am aware of.

Silver Spring, Maryland, January 24, 2014. The Montgomery County Civil Rights Coalition hosted an hour long rally and brief march in downtown Silver Spring to protest ongoing police violence without accountability, most egregiously against people of color. This action was in solidarity with hundreds of similar events nationwide celebrating the true legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King. I counted around fifty participants during the hour I was on the street. Interactions between the heavily armed, bullet-proof vested Montgomery County Police and the demonstrators were generally respectful and peaceful.
