...our friend Rick, and a robotic banana. Ok... ready? It started out just like any normal day. We knew of a game and we were gonna play it. Then, out of nowhere our friend Rick called and said "Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down, Never gonna run around and desert you!!!!!" Did I mention his last name was Astley?=)

HA! Take that Sarah! And... any other innocent bystanders that just got Rickrolled. I made the mistake of doing this once before and introducing Sarah to the concept. Two problems with that. First, she LIKES 80s music. So she went online right then and bought the fracking MP3 from Amazon. Secondly she thinks just randomly playing it with me in the room constitutes Rickrolling me. I keep telling her she has to TRICK me into playing it. So now the score is 2-0.=D

On another note, what's with all the "barefoot dancing" searches all the sudden? I've seen a lot of those in my stats for this shot. With all the barefoot modern dance and belly dancing shots I'm surprised this one even shows up in those.

So excited when I saw the first colour newspaper ad for the film I had to find some way to commemorate it....a shot on the breakfast table came to mind...

Those are the stainless steel medieval pattern gauntlets I once made, plus my chainmail in the background, and, of course, the repainted mini-Iron Man plastic figure I dug out of a superbouncy ball toy.

Here's my first quick take on the film, largely spoiler free.

....I was able to take the arvo to go and see "Iron Man" at a Paramount preview here in Melbourne, Australia, on Monday, the 28th of April, 2008. I'll review it on my radio show in a little more depth (and save a long, detailed analysis for a week later) but this is the gist of what I thought.

I.M is a fine film and very cool, to these admittedly heavily biased eyes.

I almost didn't open those eyes....as I was sitting there on an exceptionally comfy Director's Suite Chair ( Wink) thinking, "Don't screw it up, don't screw it up...." for the first few minutes, until they proved that they HADN'T! Wink

"Iron Man" is a well crafted flick which works best as an exploration of how Stark's artisan obsessiveness can switch directions when sufficiently motivated. R.D.J really nails the manic genius/artist aspect exceptionally well (it's SOOO his film, watch his eyes, and spot-on Body English!) and the suits are all overwhelmingly well realised and look FANTASTIC in the construction, development and beautifully fluid combat scenes. Lots more armour making scenes than will perhaps sit well with the average audience but which are cake icing to fans like us. The plot rolls out like clockwork but in a GOOD, workmanlike fashion, that makes it feel like we're watching a legend that we're all familiar with rather than a formula. The plot is quite political (though being perhaps over careful to keep some things a little vague) and rather left wing (fine by me!) but hey, that's pretty much a fair summation of the direction that the comic book source material has taken over the decades. It's also as much fun to watch as I thought it would be with some what I'd imagine are very expensive giggles....this is a Stark Industries Project, after all, no jerry built 'cheap' laffs!

With the exception of Pepper Potts the secondary characters are not especially well developed but that's more or less okay, it's Mr Stark's turn this time around. Soundtrack is not quite up to epic scratch, except for some relevant musical quotations that had me smiling. Overall sound design is beaut! See this film at a cinema with a top notch sound system and you'll love it!

A cool film, not perhaps quite, "Aliens", "Citizen Kane" or "Buffy" cool but still a worthy adaptation of our favourite comic book hero. The sequel should be even better! On the other hand, to clank out with my own personal obsession, "Iron Man" is gauntlets down one of the all time great films about armour that's ever been made, and could easily trade heavy metal blows with the legendary "Excalibur".

Holi (Hindi: होली, Nepali: होली, Punjabi: ਹੋਲੀ Sindhi: هولي) is a religious spring festival celebrated by Hindus as a festival of colours.

It is primarily observed in India and Nepal. It is also observed by the minority Hindus in Bangladesh and Pakistan as well in countries with large Indic diaspora populations following Hinduism, such as Suriname, Malaysia, Guyana, South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Kingdom, the United States, Mauritius, and Fiji.

Holi is also known as Phagwah (Assamese: ফাকুৱা), Festival of Colours, or Doḷajātra (Oriya: ଦୋଳଯାତ୍ରା) in Odisha, and as Dol Jatra (Bengali: দোলযাত্রা) or Basantotsav ("spring festival") (Bengali: বসন্তোৎসব) in West Bengal and Assam.

Holi is of particular significance in the Braj region, which includes locations traditionally connected to the Lord Krishna: Mathura, Vrindavan, Nandagaon, and Barsana, which become tourist destinations during the season of Holi.[1]

As per the Hindu calendar, Holi is celebrated on the Phalguna Purnima which comes in February or March in the Gregorian Calendar.

Reaching the highest point of Brussels this morning!...

Reason: Visiting the highest point of Bruxelles (well; Région de Bruxelles-Capitale) was on my list for quite a while and this morning during my 31st overnight in Bruxelles I made the walk to this point.

Altitude Cent | Hoogte Honderd: Altitude Cent is a place and neighborhood in the Belgian municipality of Vorst in the Brussels-Capital Region. The place is just a hundred meters above sea level. At the height is the Height Hundred Square (Place de l'Altitude Cent), a roundabout around St. Augustine's Church, from which eight straight avenues radiate. The place is located just east of Duden Park.

The place is located at what used to be called the Flotsenberg. This name already appeared in the 13th century as Spilotsenberghe. The gallows field of Brussels was already in 1233 at the current Cervantesstraat. In 1440 this place of execution was converted by Willem de Vogel into a triangular wall construction with openings and battlements. The gallows and wheels were protected so that falling corpses would not be eaten by dogs and other animals.[1] There was also a chapel and a cottage for the confessor of the convicts. In 1528 the Lutheran Lambrecht Thorn was buried here under the gallows.

In 1900 a new Saint Augustine parish was established here and a chapel was erected. In 1908, land was made available for a new, definitive church, which would be built in the middle of a roundabout. In 1914, the church factory approved the construction of a Byzantine-style church, and the municipal and German authorities allowed the earthworks to be built despite the First World War. However, this was withdrawn in 1916 and the works were halted. In the early 1930s, the works were taken up again and the church was built from 1933 to 1935. The church was not really finished until 1950. [ Wikipedia ]
