a little handstitching

hook to hand on the wall

inspired from article in Quilting Arts magazine

I don't know what overcame me when I got my partner assignment yesterday, but I just had to get to work!

Partner, I'm pretty sure this is your kind of pouch, but what do you think?

This pillow is truly a combination of my favorite things--linen, rainbows, Heather Ross, and FMF. It was a labor of love. I hope you like it too, partner! This thing is huge (24")! I did change from my original plan of making a hexagon pillow because I felt this design showed off the fabrics I wanted to use better.

Now, would you prefer subtle, in the ditch quilting or some colorful handstitching? Please let me know soon!

Blogged here (toward the end of the post)

this is why i can't seem to let go of any of my scraps... they can turn into something so bloody cute! dang it... i AM going to be on hoarders!!! LOL

Camper van mostly made up of Chicopee , I think there is one Hope Valley print in there too . I love this ! I want to keep it for myself ! Please ....! Now to start handstitching the appliqué on .

yeah!! it is all stitched, and ready to be put in a quilt. just trying to decide on which pattern would really help this stand out in a mini quilt. any suggestions?

This will be the front of the pouch partner.....assuming you like it. I was going to add some handstitching, but I'm still on the fence. If I don't do it on this side, I may do some on the other side.

Inspired by old utilitarian, patched work quilts. Measures 41.5" x 40"

(Hand quilting was inspired by Indian patchwork stitching.)

A simple pattern, quilted on the diagonal, made awesome by a fat quarter set of Folksy Flannels fabrics (and a few coordinating prints of my own). Easy peasy! The hardest part was finding time to sit down and handstitch down the binding.

Did I over do the handstitching? I couldn't decide on one color so I went with all of them! I'm a little nervous you aren't a rainbow kind of gal.

What do you think partner? The binding still isn't sewn down, but otherwise, it's complete. It's a bit hard to see in this picture, but there is multi-colored handstitching around the linen.

Bread baking is on the back burner for now...

I finally dug out my box of bits and pieces again...... the second little "Eddy". It's taking ages to get him done. But, a bunny needs to be done by Easter.

It's been a bit tricky because somebody else (the person for whom I am making him) ... helped stitch the body, one arm and one leg .. but, the openings are not quite where I want them (for putting in cotter pins and attaching them to the body) and I had to take apart a few things and re-stitch a few ... and, finding the edges of the fabric in between the long straggly fur bits is very difficult. The fabric is large weave and it comes apart.... and I am whining and complaining cuz I just can't see the thread from the fur etc .... even working under my big magnifying glass .....so I have to take many breaks in between doing some little bits here and there......I hope I can get him done and he will be perfect.

Today.... stuff his little body and put in some shot (in a little pouch) for weight so he sits properly. That is a story in itself... my sister and I joked about starting a little sales gimmick one year ... and, we laughed our heads off when we decided we should call it "Shot in the Ass"... because that is where you place the pouch.... where we would make little pouches of shot pellets and sell them. Lots of bear and doll makers use shot for weight and it is a nuisance to deal with... tiny pellets of steel ... all over the place if you just put them in loose. So, my idea is to put them into a little suede pouch... which I do for all of my own...and, sell them. We just never got around to it.

Okay... off to wrestle with a bunny........

~~~Scratty Eddy is a small bunny with moveable joints made by using discs and cotter pins to attach head, arms and legs ...he is made from long sparse mohair with velvet inner ears and foot pads.
His snout area has needle felted wool on it to make exactly the shape I want it to have. ~~~~
The center is a Japanese silk cloth I found in a garden shop in Berkeley...I framed it with bits, and quilted with gold metallic thread. The background is hand stitched, and the flowers are quilted on.
Gahhhh! This took forever to finish, and I had to hand stitch the fucking bottom so it looks like crap =____=
I didn't feel like handstitching anything else so the strap is attached with safety pins. I also added a few anime/word pins to the strap.
My favorite on the back is the one where Hikaru is going to hurl XD
Yea, it's done!
I think this has to be my most favorite quilt that I have made, so far!
I hope the recipient enjoys it for a long time! :)
Hi Partner! :) I'm really hoping you like this! That little strap is adjustable and removable. I added it because of the size of the pouch {aprox 9x10x3} {and I thought it was cute ;). I also got a little daring ... a tiny bit of hand stitching..oohhh! I chickened out on my last pouch, but went for it on this one! :) And I'm so glad I did! I sure learned a lot drawing up the pattern and making this! If it's too far off of what you like, I can make another! :)
Inspired by old, patched work quilts.
Chopped Vegetables pattern from Elizabeth Hartman . Neutrals with a pop of yellow and three circles of handstitching .
Embroidered postcards produced for my Major Project at Uni, March 2010.
the rainy weekend provided a good excuse for me to (finally) do the handstitching on this one. I had to go to FIVE stores to find the right color perle cotton & a needle with a big enough eye. But...i think it was worth the effort. What do you think, partner?
All that's left is the binding. Speaking of which, i was planning to bind it in orange, but now I think it would be too, too much. So light blue? thoughts?
