This little animation came about when I was listening to an album of 1940s experimental music by one of the true pioneers of 20th century avant-garde music, John Cage (1912-1992). I was actually looking for a piece for a short film I was working on called "The Private Life of the Brain" (I'll show you that eventually). But as soon as I heard Cage's "Suite for Toy Piano (1948)" it had immediate resonances with Chinese folk music (not to mention music boxes). I had my photos of a colourful box and my gold hand painted Buddha. So what better than to put them together and create a "Buddha in a Box".
There is no disrespect intended here to the Buddha or the wonderful traditions of Buddhism. On the contrary, John Cage was himself a Zen practitioner and his philosophy was intimately linked to these teachings. Buddhist missionaries first made their way into China from India soon after Gautama Buddha had died in the 4th century BC.

This is one of my favourite boxes! I put a decoupage rose up side and then I hand painted all around the box with little roses. Then I embossed with 3D inks and some glitter effects. It’s looks wonderful!

Handmade one of a kind Spirited Away themed acrylic handpainted wooden trinket box with polymer clay decorations.
On the top of the box there's the Boh-Mouse, made with polymer clay and then hand painted.
On the right and left sides, there's a cute polymer clay soot sprite, around hand painted little colorful stars.
The box is lucid varnished outside, and it's entirely black painted with red and gold glitters.
Size: 10 cm x 7 cm (3.9 x 2.8 inches)
