Our creative advice pages where we take ordinary items and turn them into something extraordinary. Art direction by Mads Monsen.

One of four images--On a trip to Maine & Massachusetts in March, 2018, I acquired 4 new salt cellars for my collection. They are hard to resist, particularly when I have friends who take me to antique shops! This is a master salt, measuring approximately 3 inches wide. A handle is unusual. I found this salt at Country Mischief in Templeton, Massachusetts.

Just across the window you find an handle... Decide how you want to use it for your situation.

The first time that I used my new 17 gallon oil drain pan with pump, the handle broke when I was sliding it under the back of the snow cat. So, here is my attempt to build a new one out of steel rather than cast iron. Oh yeah, by the way, the new one works perfectly. Plus I can attach it to a drill.

The Handle family of stools, by Fernando Brizio, are joyful, cartoonish creations that impress by both their simplicity and sheer brilliance. Fernando Brizio is well known for his colourful, eccentric style, and the Handle doesn't shy away from that premise. While staying faithful to his trademark, Brizio kept his ground on safe domain, choosing very sensibly for the lines that would compose the base of the Handle, made of an easy-on-the-hand fabric that lends refinement and a hand-sewn look. The choice of colours was not random either, a point made when, for instance, you place a purple Handle under different settings of lighting and it ranges from its original colour to a deep blue.
