for this charming rural community...

In the fabulous Gloucester cathedral cloisters I had taken one handheld shot to the left with my compact Canon G6 and another to the right, then as an afterthought took one in the centre. Back at the ranch I wondered if they would merge . . .

Some Hogwarts corridor scenes in the Harry Potter films are shot in these cloisters.

The cloisters at Gloucester Cathedral are the earliest surviving fan vaults, apparently designed between 1351 and 1377 by Thomas de Cambridge.

Originally built to house the monks, the cloisters provided space for them to live, work and meditate. In many abbeys, the cloisters were traditionally built on the south side, but at Gloucester, it unusually lies on the north.

Using the normal Benedictine layout, all of the domestic buildings would have originally branched off three of the cloister walks.

Begun in the late 14th century and finished by Abbot Froucester before 1412, it replaced an earlier Norman cloister.

The design itself incorporates a row of twenty carrels (niche like spaces), which would have originally houses desks for the monks to study. The Cloister also includes a lavatorium, (washing place) which would have made use of a local stream.

Took 13 images at 1/20th sec using high burst mode, deleted 3 that were not quite sharp, and blended 10 in Photoshop for something resembling a 2 sec. exposure.

This only works when the flow of the water is fairly uniform. Did not work when I tried it on a rushing stream.

Ass up, that's the way... I like to

Dollar Bill ya'll...

This is the second time that I've photographed a Black-crowned Night Heron flying overhead on Jefferson Blvd. by the freshwater wetlands. The first time was a shot of an adult and this one is a juvenile. Both were full-frame shots. I'm thinking that this must be a fly-over zone.

(The juvenile looks so different from the adult, I may have misidentified it. If so, pls. email me.)

I was very pleased with the way this one turned out. It was taken at Wilton house in the exhibit known as the Old Tudor Kitchen. Lit from natural light coming through a very small window it presented a bit of a challenge. Handheld at 400ISO 1/13th sec at f/5.6 with me very firmly pressed against the wall to the right of this shot. The benefit of image stabilisation eh?

I spent 9 days in Hong Kong in 2017. Of course, taking a shot of this famous view from Victoria Peak is obligatory! As tripods were forbidden I did my best handheld. Drizzle, smog and strong winds didn't help much, but I was entirely fascinated by seeing arguably the world's best skyline in person.

Exploring handheld shooting at ISO2000. 10:30 morning sunlight but this high ISO allowed for a good ss and sharp and pronounced results without a tripod. Of course the Zf has excellent stabilization so that helped a lot too.
