I tried taking shots of a woman who was playing a hammered dulcimer in the azalea garden but the light under her tent was too dark. However, I did get capture some detail on the instrument itself.
Here's and I playing at the Dunwoodie Dell stage at KCRF with our friend and Kansas partner Aaron. The tarp overhead is our makeshift stage cover - it doesn't look all that pretty, but it kept us dry.
This is also a shot of my linen parti-colored kirtle in action, as well as the psaltery case and Tulstin Troubadours banner I made.

While hiking in Griffith Park last week I heard music coming from the picnic area and saw this man playing some interesting instruments. The other day I decided to go up to him and strike up a conversation. His name is Vladamir and he plays traditional folk/latin music with the Philharmonic and at the Disney music hall, so he is a seasoned musician. The famous conductor, Artur Rubenstein, saw him playing in the park once and was so impressed he asked him to join in with the Philharmonic. This chance meeting led to a number of prominent gigs with his band.
I was interested in the hammered Dulcimer, which is the instrument he is playing. Vladamir gave me a history lesson on the origin and paths of his instruments. Besides the dulcimer, he plays flute, pan flute, guitar, and plans to learn 100 instruments in the next year. Vladamir allowed me to photograph him and his instruments.

Colonial Times: A Day to Remember at the Living History Park in North Augusta showcased facets of 18th century living in Georgia and South Carolina.
Jim McGaw plays the hammered dulcimer. He explained it was an "ancestor" of the piano (a similar concept: the piano has hammers which strike strings in response to fingers on the keyboard).

I didn't think that I would get a good shot of Simon, because through most of the show I couldn't see him past the heads.
But... I craned my own head over and took a couple of shots every once in a while, and it turns out that I did get a good one.
I really love this shot.
