Macro Mondays: Handtool

For this weeks Theme i decided to smash a hammer on a nail. To enhance some action in the shot I've put some baby powder on the nail before the smash and used a violett rimlight

Had a few exposed films hanging around in a drawer and had them developed by Ikigai Labs in Melbourne. Among those films, a roll of TMAX400 from my now-moved-on OM-4Ti.

Back to June '24 for this frame with a low angled sun and some nice looking cloud. Contre jour of course :-)

The hammer of our late 1700s grandfather clock travelling at speed to strike the (suitably strident) bell and mark the hour. The hammer head is about 0.5" long, so the whole image is about 2" wide.

Look at all these cute little hammerhead pets! They are animated and wiggle alongside you! Check them out at the Nuevo Sol Gacha Fair during the month of July and at their mainstore afterwards!

Just about any day that you visit Philadelphia you can find someone dressed in colonial style. In the Independence Mall Visitor's Center they will often be demonstrating early craftwork or music. This fellow was playing the hammered dulcimer and doing a great job at it.

Each hammer has a job that is does...

The top hammer does roofing...

The middle hammer does metal working...

The bottom hammer works the midnight shift at MacDonald's...

Could not resist this one!

Having just crossed New Mexico Highway 17 for the second time at Milepost 337.45, this Denver & Rio Grande Western Cumbres Turn is just about halfway through its journey from the yards at Chama to Cumbres Pass. The firemen on the two, K-36 Locomotives #s 488 and 487 don't get a minute's rest on this run, which is basically a 4% grade from just outside Chama, all the way to the pass. Once they reach the top of the hill, this crew will switch out the freight cars, placing them on a siding, before descending the hill back to Chama, with only the caboose in tow. After lunch, they will do it all over again, taking another cut of cars to the summit in the afternoon. At that point, the entire collection of cars will be combined into one, long train, which will head east to Alamosa, with just a single K-36 in charge.

This image was captured during an October, 2012 photo shoot on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, organized by Lerro Photography.

The coppersmith barbet, crimson-breasted barbet or coppersmith (Psilopogon haemacephalus), is a bird with crimson forehead and throat which is best known for its metronomic call that has been likened to a coppersmith striking metal with a hammer.

This took a little set up. A small kids hammer striking a nail.

But it needed something so rear curtain flash to the right to get the motion effect. Then the hammer was connected to a battery charger positive cable and the nail to the the negative. When they connected, sparks flew. Lots and lots of tries to get the right combo

Running hopelessly behind again.... probably because that DIY job took longer than I expected...

This is part of Andy Warhol's Hammer and Sickle series from 1977. It was on display at the Palm Springs Art Museum when we visited in 2018. I served in the Army Reserve from 1975 to 1979 and then went onto active duty in the Navy from 1979 to 2002. This was a symbol of a Cold War opponent. The USSR fell in 1991 but sadly Russia still does not have a democracy. I still have hope for the people of Russia.

Table lamps stand out in the damp and overcast scene as Stanier 4-6-0 No. 46115 'Scots Guardsman' hammers unassisted up the gradient away from Oxenholme past Kendal with the 'Winter Cumbrian Coast Express' on 28 January 2017.

The gloomy conditions were in stark contrast to the weather for the 'Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express' the previous weekend.

Looking like a brown and orange Hammer Head Shark, Providence and Worcester B39-8E #3901 leads a pair of Norfolk Southern motors and 105 cars north on the mainline, headed for Worcester.

I'll be honest. I left the house thinking there was no way the #3901 would be leading, remembering it's orientation when it brought the NS power and accompanying unit ethanol train south. But lo and behold, here it was. Some profanities were said out loud to myself when the train came into view. You have to understand though; NS power out here was still very rare at the time and I couldn't have cared less about brown and orange on these trains. Seeing the "big stuff" in my little neck of the woods was WILD, so yea, this kinda pissed me off...at the time. I said it in a prior post, but I'm glad I ended up getting this.
