The fly agaric is poisonous. It is even related to the extremely poisonous green tuberous manite! There are various toxins in the hat. It is not yet known what a mushroom uses poison for. Research is still being done. If you ingest the poison, you can become very ill. If you ingest enough poison, it will kill you! In the past, fly agarics were used in rituals. After ingesting the mushroom, shamans (a type of priest) experienced hallucinations.
Mushrooms such as the fly agaric sometimes stand in a circle. The cause of this can also be found under the ground, at the mycelium. When a mycelium grows, it does so in all directions. When the nutrients are used up in the middle of the mycelium, that part dies. This creates an open space in the middle of the mycelium. Only when the mushrooms grow out, you can see the witch circle.

Exploring around this alien landscape was so exciting all in a group with headlamps walking with poles tapping in single file, hoodoos glowing left then right as each passes, a soft glow bringing to mind the astronauts walking on the moon or explorers on a arctic quest. When I was watching the group I remembered this movie from back in the 80's called Altered States. In the movie William Hurt seeks out a native culture known to posses a drug allowing one to remember back through the human genetic code, then regress physically. There was a scene after he takes the drug and drops into a deep hallucinogenic state, the visuals were ok for the 80's but the storyline in quite engaging and this scene reminded me of that.
Give it a try sometime,
...........the movie......not the hallucination. Haha.
As I sat and watched the clouds pass, I caught this slight opening showing just a few stars and opened the shutter.

Datura (Brugmansia suaveolens) is a large, erect shrub that easily reaches 2 or 3 meters in height.
The trumpet-shaped flowers are simple, fragrant and can be about 30 cm long. They are usually white or yellow in color, but varieties and hybrids of pink and folded flowers also occur.
Its landscape use is widely discussed, since it is a very toxic and narcotic plant, since all parts of the plant contain alkaloids that can cause vomiting, nausea, dryness of the mucous membranes, fever, tachycardia, hallucinations and dilation of the pupils. For this reason many city halls prohibit its use in public ornamentation. However, if used with common sense and out of reach of children, it can become a very attractive plant in the garden.
The species was originally endemic in the humid forests of the coastal region of southeastern Brazil, where it occurred at altitudes below 1000 m along the banks of water courses and in open areas of the forest, but can now be found in residential areas of almost all South America and occasionally Central America, Mexico, California and even some areas of Florida. The species is cultivated in all tropical and subtropical regions of the world, and traded globally as indoors ornamental plant.
