A blanket of fog covered the Mt Jewett area on Halloween night creating a spooky element, the long standing B&O signal guards the interlocking at CP Boyer waiting to get lit to clear the next AM for the SIRI.
I often wonder where do the witches hide in the woods. 🤔
Fruiting bodies of the Turkey-tail fungus (Trametes versicolour) called due to it resemblance in shape and the presence of concentric rings. It is a very common bracket fungus that has attractive multicoloured zones hence another name, the many-zoned polypore. This one had algae growth over its neck (not uncommon sight) of an interesting shape. Primrose Hill Community Woodland. Bath, BANES, England, UK.
I did this little number for Halloween and I have posted an earlier version a few months ago but I decided to do a little more work on it. I used a sepia theme to give it a creepy aged look and I liked what happened to the sky. The earlier version has gotten the most views of any image that I have posted and I didn't push it very much.
The fantasy theme is a little ghostly girl who died during the dust bowl who is now waiting for a bus that will never come along the blue ruin road. She's dressed in the attire that they needed to avoid inhaling the terrible dust from the dust storms that occurred in the 30's.

On a crisp Halloween night, Rachel, a spirited redhead with a love for all things autumn, set out for a fun night of trick-or-treating. Clad in a whimsical witch’s costume and sipping on a spiced latte, she relished the familiar sights and sounds of the season. Little did she know, her evening was about to take a turn for the eerie.
As she wandered down Trick or Treat Street, Rachel’s eyes widened at the sight of a house she had never noticed before. It was dark and foreboding and called Willow Manor, with twisted trees casting long shadows across the lawn. Outside, two clowns stood menacingly. One held a sign that read “Free Hugs!” — a proposition Rachel had no intention of accepting. The other clown, even more sinister, dangled a terrified little child upside down by his feet.
Rachel’s heart pounded in her chest. She was scared to death, but the sight of the helpless child stirred a fierce determination within her. She couldn’t just walk away.
Taking a deep breath, Rachel approached the clowns. “Hey! Let him go!” she shouted, trying to keep her voice steady.
The clowns turned their painted faces towards her, their grins widening. “Oh, look! Another volunteer!” the one with the sign cackled.
Rachel’s mind raced. She needed a plan. Spotting a pile of candy on the porch, she had an idea. “How about a trade?” she suggested, holding up her bag of treats. “I’ll give you all my candy and my spiced latte if you let him go.”
The clowns exchanged glances, their interest piqued. “Candy AND a spiced latte, you say?” the clown holding the boy mused. “All right, but you have to come closer.”
Rachel’s hands trembled as she stepped forward, her bag of candy & spiced latte held out as an offering. The clown with the sign snatched it greedily, while the other one dropped the boy to the ground. He scrambled to his feet and ran to Rachel, clutching her hand tightly.
“Now, run!” Rachel whispered urgently. Together, they bolted down the street, not daring to look back until they were safely away from the haunted house.
Breathless and shaken, Rachel and the boy finally stopped. “Thank you,” he gasped, tears streaming down his face. “You saved me.”
Rachel smiled, her fear melting away. “You’re welcome. Let’s get you home.”
As they walked, Rachel couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride. She had faced her fears and come out stronger. Halloween might never be the same for her, but she knew one thing for sure — she was braver than she had ever imagined.

The practice of carving jack-o’-lanterns originated in Ireland, where people used to carve creepy faces onto turnips. The name “jack-o’-lantern” comes from an Irish folktale about a man named Stingy Jack.
According to the story, Stingy Jack invited the Devil for a drink and didn’t want to pay for his drink. So he convinced the Devil to turn himself into a coin that Jack could use to buy their drinks. Once the Devil did so, Jack decided to keep the money and put it into his pocket next to a silver cross, which prevented the Devil from changing back into his original form.
Jack eventually freed the Devil, under the condition that he would not bother Jack for one year and that, should Jack die, he would not claim his soul. The next year, Jack again tricked the Devil into climbing into a tree to pick a piece of fruit. While he was up in the tree, Jack carved a sign of the cross into the tree’s bark so that the Devil could not come down until he promised Jack not to bother him for ten more years. Soon after, Jack died.
As the legend goes, God would not allow such an unsavory figure into heaven. The Devil, upset by the trick Jack had played on him and keeping his word not to claim his soul, would not allow Jack into hell either. He sent Jack off into the dark night with only a burning coal to light his way. Jack put the coal into a carved-out turnip and has been roaming the Earth with it ever since.
