Linking Fort Langley and McMillan Island BC.

This ranch is owned by the Haldiman Family. It's not really a ranch anymore. It's mostly a family retreat I think. A run down one at that.

The Jacob Haidi Bridge that spans the Bedford Channel was built in 1931 -1932 because if a donation of $15,000 by local resident Jacob Haitdi. The bridge runs from the village of Fort Langley to McMillan Island and was a link to the ferry that later ran from McMillan Island to Maple Ridge (Albion) across the Fraser River. Aanal at her haldi function

In the Haldi ceremony, the family members ‘prepare’ the bride and groom for the forthcoming wedding. They apply a paste, also known as ubtan on the face, arms and feet of the bride and the groom.

During the ceremony, kangana is tied on the right wrists of the bride and groom. These are all symbols of good luck and to protect the bride and the groom from the evil eye.

Haldi

Hindu ritual done to women who are going to marry so that they look shinier and more beautiful (beauty ritual).

The ritual consists in painting the future bride with “ubtan”, a yellow/brown pigment. The bride is painted in several parts of the body by several women. Only married women can paint the bride.

In the meantime, folk songs about beauty and brides are sang. After that, they pray to the gods.

There is a Haldi event in weddings but it is done for fun and both the bride and the groom are painted with yellow. For more fun, other colors are like pink are used.

Haldi Kumkum, or the Haldi Kumkum ceremony, is a social gathering in India in which married women exchange haldi (turmeric) and kumkum (vermilion powder), as a symbol of their married status and wishing for their husbands' long lives.

The ceremony is particularly popular in the western Indian states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Goa. Married women invite friends, relatives and new acquaintances to meet in an atmosphere of merriment and fun. On such occasions, the hostess distributes bangles, sweets, small novelties, flowers, betel leaves and nuts as well as coconuts. The snacks include Kairiche Panhe (raw mango juice) and Vatli Dal. ~~Wikipedia

The Vittal Birdev Annual Yatra, something that is not heard of, is celebrated at Pattan Kodoli village in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra attended by thousands of devotees coming from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra between 17th and 24th of October. The festival is celebrated to offer prayers to the community diety of the shepherds, Shri Vittal Birdev, an incarnation of Lord Shiva. They consider that the festival and rituals would bring good fortune.

Vittal Birdev Yatra One of the craziest festival yet the one which remains unknown and unexplored is the annual Haldi Festival at Pattan Kadoli in Maharastra. Shepherds from Maharastra, Andra Pradesh, Karnataka assemble at Pattan Kadoli and celebrate the festival by immersing themselves and everyone around with Turmeric Powder. Over 200000 devotees merge into this little village which gets packed to the brim and of course, gets coated with yellow color.

Shri Vittal Birdev Annual Festival is observed in at Pattan Kodoli village 17km from Kolhapur (Maharashtra, India). It is the birth anniversary or Janmotsav festival of Vitthal Birdev Maharaj, who is a reincarnation of Lord Vishnu. Birdev is the family deity of the Shepherd community from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Goa and Andhra Pradesh (India). On that day, I saw Devotees of God Vitthal Birdev are taking slaps of the hunter on their bodies without any care and without any fear.
