Halal food carts are a city staple, featuring authentic eats for cheap. there are plenty of carts on the street of New York City.
Nothing to begin a year like stopping on a cold winter day in one of the many food stands in the streets of New York and grab a bite... in this case, some halal meat...
Somehow it's funny to see that woman with the seemingly elegant fur coat, standing there ready to eat a very saucy dish from a foam container.... :-P

I don't celebrate Christmas but couldn't resist to take some pictures of this yummy thing.
Btw, I don't know what's wrong with Flickr these days but I couldn't see some of your photos (they just didn't show up among my contacts photos). I was also having some problems faving the photos. I'm not sure if anyone is having the same problem or it's just me. So I apologize for the lack of leaving feedback on your beautiful work.

I love markets and this picture was taken in the busy Cambridge market that always gives me pictures.
Lahmacun
- yeast dough, minced meat, tomatoes, parsley, onions, spices, lemon wedge
Derived f from Arabic: لحم بعجي
lahm bi'ajīn - "meat with dough", Lahmacun is essentially Middle Eastern pizza, albeit without cheese.
Nazar version is made with seasoned meat - lamb, most likely, and house-made yeast dough. The latter is quickly baked to crispy, but barely charred edges; it retains softness on the inside and pleasant crunch on the outside. Although good "as is", toppings served on the side complete the picture, with a squeeze of lemon being perhaps the most important of all. I have asked what spices are used for lahmacun at Nazar, but it remains a guarded secret; I can tell you that seasoning is equally complex and comforting, but to this day I do not know what it is. Noteworthy: Nazar lead cook worked at some fine dinng establishments in Chicago, I understand - his skills would make Charlie Trotter proud , if not envious; those same skills are now applied to home-style food - just imagine the value and the taste!
Lahmacun is the ultimate street food favorite in Turkey, and Nazar's version easily stands to the best there is. Also, at the time this picture was taken, lahmacun at Nazar is sold for $2.50
Rarely have I seen something prepared so consistently well - lahmacun at Nazar remains one of the best plates every time I get to enjoy it. Every time.
I love Sunday markets!
We had chicken tikka for lunch yesterday - and yes, it was absolutely delicious!!!
Needless to say, we ate far too much, so much so that we couldn't eat dinner...
Tak-a-tak is a term for a particular style of preparing food cooked on a huge tava, such as the one shown here, with the meat being chopped whilst frying, originating from Lahore's Androon Shehr, the old walled city, rather it's very common to this area.
Bhindi masala
- Okra cooked in tomatoes, onions, ginger and spices
It was an outstanding side dish - spice level was assertive, intense but not at all overpowering.
A tandoor is a cylindrical clay oven used in cooking and baking. The tandoor is used for cooking in Azerbaijan, India, Turkey, Iran, Armenia, Georgia, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, the Balkans, the Middle East, and Central Asia, as well as Burma and Bangladesh. In this case two Seekh Kebab skewers and Chicken Tikka skewer are being cooked over the tandoor. The tandoor would also be used to cook Naan bread.
