This is the traditional London Borough Top, on the Seven Sisters Road opposite Finsbury Park. I'm not convinced.
This is one of numerous photos, postcards and sketches from the notebooks of the late Mr G.W. Mason., past Senior Partner of Bunch & Duke chartered surveyors at 360 Mare Street, Hackney.
Seen from the Dalston Roof Park, on top of the Print Works in Ashwin Street.
The route of the former railway line which connected Dalston Junction with Hackney can be seen curving round the buildings; part of the route has been used for the approach to the car park and delivery area of the Dalston Kingsland Shopping Centre.
The Eastern Curve was opened in 1865 by the North London Railway and carried passenger trains from Broad Street to Poplar, as well as freight. Passengers services ceased during the Second World War and the lines were lifted in 1966; however the route has been preserved and could be reinstated in the future if so desired; provision has even been made in the design of the new Dalston Junction Station on the East London Line for this - although there are currently no proposals for this to happen. Part of the route to the right of the photo is now occupied by the Eastern Curve Community Garden, another inititaive to bring much-needed green space to this deprived and crowded part of London.
