In September 2015, Het Entrepot will place several young volunteers in a Bruges cellar where they will spend four days hacking into their home town’s DNA and thrashing out their dreams for Bruges. And all this under the watchful eyes of the outside world as cameras record the entire 4-day project.
They will brainstorm with each other but also have the help of various experts on the subject. Each day will close with an evening programme for the public. You are welcome to join in the debate on their ideas.

So I bought a few things from KEH recently: a BGN grade 135/2.8 (for $60 they practically gave it away) a 55mm UV filter and an "as-is" inoperative Winder 2. Why would I buy an inoperative Winder 2 might you ask? Well, for a whopping .89 cents I figured I'd take a chance on trying to make my own grip for my OM. Took me about 45 minutes, but I managed to dismantle the winder (after making sure it really was DOA) remove the guts and put it back together. The battery compartment is more or less separate from the rest of the device, so I just took that off completely. My only complaint is that the bottom is now a shiny metal plate that is flimsy at best, and the actual grip itself is just slightly too large to be really ergonomic. I'm going to try using it to see how it handles in "real world" situations; if it doesn't help any, oh well, it was .89 cents and I got to see the guts of a Winder 2. :)
Soldering a length of wire to the hotshoe, with a plug at the other end that matches one of my cheapie flashes.
Eventually I replaced this temporary lash-up. I found a nice coiled cord ending in a female PC connection; so I just drilled a hole through the top of the camera and soldered its wires to the ones going to the hotshoe.

The Jack's Hack B-29 Bomber is on Display in the New England Air Museum in Windsor Locks, Connecticut. The B-29 with its 11 man crew, a full load of fuel and a 5000 lb bomb load weighed 135,000 lbs and had a range of 3250 miles at 25,000 ft. Our B-29 is the centerpiece of the museum's 58th Bomb Wing exhibit. The 58th Bombardment Wing merits an elite place in American history having played a key role in the defeat of the Japanese Empire in WW-II. Starting in Kansas when they tested and trained to fly the B-29, a new and unproven aircraft, to the final bombing mission against Japan, they proved their courage and determination in the most difficult of conditions - conquering the searing heat of India, the perilous Himalayas, and a fierce and determined enemy.
This is a hodge-podge of hardware I'm using to test a 2.4ghz wireless camera receiver (with no camera). The stack of hardware consists of the receiver, powered with a PC power supply I turned into a bench supply, paper clip antenna, and apple ][ composite monitor. Did I mention that i got the receiver for $2.50? I need some cameras for that much now.

if you are an ecademy member take note - always bear in mind there maybe another reason for odd behavior / out of character expressions or rants - people get hacked all the time - it might not actually be the person you think it is.

In the early 90s, I was smitten by all things hacker. So I wrote the Hacker's Manifesto down from a book, into Photoshop 2 (I think). It was saved as a QuickDraw32 file that even Apple don't recognize no more. I used good old GraphicConverter to open it and resave as PNG.
Since I first read it, I've always carried parts of The Mentor's credo within. Sure, it may be simplistic, but the tenets still stand firm. I Believe.
My reason for posting this old image is partly nostalgia, but mostly inspired by the fact that the powers that be STILL don't understand what a hacker is. Case in point: Swedish police just busted a hackerspace in nearby Malmö (claiming it was a collateral to another bust, but IT cops were present). The hackerspace, Forskningsavdelningen(The Research Department), had all their computers confiscated, along with blank keys and such, and the police have now claimed that Forskningsavdelningen was "preparing to commit grand theft," referring to their locksmithing tools. ANYONE who's EVER read hacker history knows that this has been a part of hacker culture since the days of TMRC. Of course, I cannot know if Forskningsavdelningen had any illegalities of any magnitude going on, but i still think the blatant ignorance of the powers that be is a crime in itself.
The end result will probably be nothing, except a loss of a bunch of probably-not-top-of-the-line computers and a slight disruption of operations.
