Note the H in H 2-1 is different from Hen which are from Henize's catalogs. Henize cataloged this one as Hen 2-194. The H in this case refers to Haro. There's a paper about its discovery here but it's in Spanish. Anyway, that confused me a bit when I was looking at the various designations for this one so I thought I'd mention it.

DEATH OF DANIEL H. SCOTT
______
Another of the Well Known Old Settlers
of Allen County Dies.
______
Daniel Houston Scott, aged sixty-nine years, and a resident of Iola for over thirty years, died last night at six o’clock at his home, 433 South Jefferson avenue, after an illness extending over two weeks. Mr. Scott has been in poor health for some time but his condition had become serious only very recently. He is survived by his wife and the following children: James Winfield, of Coffeyville; May L. and Lottie Alice, of Blackfoot, Idaho; Anna M. of Whittier, Calif.; William H., Bertha, and Ruby. The funeral arrangements await the arrival of the two daughters from Blackfoot, Idaho, and it probably cannot be held until Sunday, at the earliest.
Daniel Houston Scott, whose residence here has been extended over upwards of thirty years, was born in Blunt County, Tenn., November 21, 1842. * * * At the age of twelve years Houston Scott went with his parents to Sullivan County, Missouri, and was limitedly schooled in the rural schools. He was a resident of that county until a year after the Civil War. He was married in 1865 to Hannah M. a daughter of John G. Anderson, who moved from Kentucky to Ripley County, Ohio, resided there some years, and continued his journey westward to Livingston County, Illinois, moving later to Linn County, Mo. Mr. Scott settled temporarily in Bourbon County upon his advent to Kansas. He entered Allen County in 1874, and three years later came to Iola. He was essentially a farmer up to the date of his location in this city since which time he has been engaged as a mechanic.
Mr. Scott was one of the well known Grand Army men of Allen County. November 2, 1861, he enlisted in Company A, Twenty-Third Missouri Infantry which regiment was a part of Sherman’s army. At the battle of Shiloh, Mr. Scott was taken prisoner. He was in the rebel prisons at Montgomery, Ala., and at Macon, Ga., seven and a half months when he was exchanged. He reached his regiment again December 25th, and served with it until December 30, 1864, when he was mustered out at Savannah, Ga. He was in the battles of Lovejoy Station, Peachtree Creek, Resaca, Kennesaw Mountain, Atlanta and Snakehead Gap.

DANIEL HOUSTON SCOTT.
DANIEL HOUSTON SCOTT, of Iola, whose residence here has been extended over a period of nearly a quarter of a century, was born in Blunt county, Tennessee, November 21, 1842. His father, Daniel Scott, was born in the same county and state in 1805 and died in Sullivan county, Missouri, in 1862. Our subject's paternal grandfather was William Scott. He was born in old Virginia in 1778 and died in Blunt county, Tennessee, in 1855. He married Phebe Marr and was the father of six children: Daniel, James, Sarah, wife of John McBrin; Mary, wife of William McBrin; Jane and Charles.
Daniel Scott married Jane, a daughter of Richard McBrin. She died in 1870 at the age of sixty-eight years. Her children were: Charles T., deceased; William H., of Livingston county, Missouri; Nancy J., who resides in Sullivan county, Missouri; John Tipton Scott, deceased; James M., deceased, and Richard and Elizabeth C., deceased; the latter was married to Andrew Johnson and left a family in Sullivan county, Missouri; Isaac A., of Fulton, Kansas; Phebe A., deceased, who married John Ruble; Daniel H.; Sarah L., wife of Byram Chapman, of Bourbon county, Kansas.
At the age of twelve years Houston Scott went with his parents to Sullivan county, Missouri, and was there limitedly schooled in the rural schools. He was a resident of that county till the year after the Civil war. He was married in 1865 to Hannah M., a daughter of John G. Anderson, who moved from Kentucky to Ripley county, Ohio, resided there some years and continued his journey westward to Livingston county, Illinois, and still another move to Linn county, Missouri. In 1868 he took up his final location in Kansas, settling at Iola in 1867. He moved to Neosho county, Kansas, where he died in 1868.
Mr. Scott settled temporarily in Bourbon county upon his advent to Kansas. He entered Allen county in 1874 and three years later he came into Iola. He was essentially a farmer up to the date of his location in this city, since which time he has been engaged as a mechanic. He has done much of the mason work in old Iola and only within the recent past has his physical condition forced his retirement from active work.
Mr. Scott is one of the well known Grand Army men of Allen county. November 2nd, 1861, he enlisted in Company A, Twenty-third Missouri Infantry, which regiment was a part of Sherman's army. At the battle of Shiloh Mr. Scott was taken prisoner. He was in the Rebel prisons at Montgomery, Alabama, and at Macon, Georgia, seven and a half months and was exchanged. He reached his regiment again December 25th and served with it till December 30th, 1864, when he was mustered out at Savannah, Georgia. He was in the battles of Lovejoy Station, Peachtree Creek, Resaca, Kennesaw Mountain, Atlanta and Snakehead Gap.
Mr. and Mrs. Scott's family consists of the following children: James Winfield, of Coffeyville, Kansas; May L., of Blackfoot, Idaho; Anna M., of Whittier, California; Lottie Alice, of Blackfoot, Idaho; William H., one of the leading barbers of Iola; Bertha and Ruby Scott. The first three daughters are well known and efficient teachers in their respective homes and May L. Scott was named by the Republicans of her county for the office of County Superinteodent in 1898, and again in 1890 and was elected to the office.
The political history of the Scotts reveals the fact that they have been Whigs and then Republican, as those parties existed. Houston Scott became a Republican when his attention was first turned toward politics. His fealty to the principles of that party has been constant and such steadfastness is a matter of personal pride to himself and of satisfaction to his party.

______
BODY LIES IN STATE
______
Hundreds Viewing for the Last
Time, the Features of
their Old Friend.
______
The funeral of Rev. W. H. Underwood is being held this afternoon at the First M. E. church, the services being conducted by W. C. Danson, who will preach the funeral service.
The body under the auspices of Phil Sheridan Post, G. A. R. was taken to the church at 12 o’clock, where it remained in state until the hour of the funeral.
Crowds of people, young and old, friends and acquaintances of the dead man, of whom he had a host, viewed the remains during these hours. Many people from the surrounding country and from adjacent towns are in the city for the purpose of attending the obsequies of the deceased, an evidence of the general esteem and respect in which he was held.
The day is gloomy and nature seems to have joined in the general sorrow which is felt over the good man’s death.
The casket at the church is laden with floral tributes to the dead, a profusion expressive of the tender love held by the donors for he who has passed away and sympathy for his widow and family who are left to mourn the loss of a true and living husband and father.
His comrades of the G. A. R. are out in full force and exhibit by their presence not only the regard they feel for the deceased as a man, but as a comrade who in the call to save his country, offered freely and fully his services to the cause of freedom, liberty and a united nation.
The unanimity with which all classes join in these final services to a life well lived is a lasting testimonial of the universal esteem in which he is held as a soldier, a religious teacher, a citizen and common friend to all.
______
William Henry Underwood, was born at Seneca Falls, New York, April 13th, 1841. His parents moved to Coral, McHenry county, Ill., when he was six years of age. Here he attended school for a few years until the death of his mother. On May 24th, 1861, he enlisted in the Union army, joining company D, 15th Illinois Infantry, at Freeport. As a member of this regiment he witnessed the surrender of Ft. Donaldson, was in the battle of Shiloh, in the siege of Corinth, and with Grant during the siege of Vicksburg. He was with Sherman in the march to Meridian and on the famous march to the sea as far as Huntsville, when his term expired.
Forced marches impaired his health until he was compelled to return home, where he was mustered out of service at Springfield, May 24th, 1864. When he offered himself for re-enlistment, he was rejected.
He attended Clark seminary at Aurora, Ill., afterward going to Evanston, where he studied for the ministry at Garrett Biblical Institute. He joined the Rock River conference in 1868 and was assigned to Round Grove circuit in 1869 and 1870.
He was married to Miss Juliet Plank at Copenhagen, New York, on November 25th, 1869, and to this union were born four children, one son, who died at birth, and three daughters, Marcia Agnes, Katherine and Mary. He moved to Kansas in 1873, and was stationed at Irving. In the spring of 1875 he was sent to Clay Center, and while pastor of this church for three years, he built the first building owned by this congregation. He served his conference as presiding elder of the Clay Center district from 1884 to 1887 and of the Junction City district from 1894 to 1899. He was a delegate to the general conference at Cleveland, O., in 1896.
As a pastor in the conference he served the charges at Irving, Clay Center, Sabetha, Severance, Hiawatha, Morganville, Chifton and Barnes. He was conference tract agent during 1901 and 1902 and Investment agent for the permanent fund for conference claimants, from 1903 to the time of his death. He was trustee of Baker University from 1894 until the day of his death and met with the board at Baldwin the day before the end came.
He served his community as justice of the peace, county commissioner, member of the city council, and his state as chaplain of the senate during the session of 1909. He was post commander in 1908.
He died in Topeka September 27, at the home of Rev. Jackson Brown, after an illness of one hour.
The following resolutions were adopted by the Men’s Fraternal Bible class of the First M. E. church, Clay Center, Kansas:
Whereas, An all-wise Father seen fit to remove from our midst our beloved friend and brother, W. H. Underwood, charter member of the Men’s Fraternal Bible Class of the First Methodist church of Clay Center, Kansas and,
Whereas, his sudden departure, at the call of his Heavenly Father, has cast a dark cloud of sorrow over the lives of each member of this class, and,
Whereas, We greatly miss his wise counsel, his noble teaching, his uplifting presence and comforting words:
Therefore, Be it resolved, that we express to the family of the deceased, our genuine Christian sympathy in this hour of their great sorrow over the lives of each member of this class, and,
Whereas, We greatly miss his wise counsel, his noble teaching his uplifting presence and comforting words:
Therefore, Be it resolved, that we express to the family of the deceased, our genuine Christian sympathy in this hour of their great sorrow, and devoutly pray that they may be able to look forward to a reunion resplendent with the glory of God, in the spirit world.
And,be it further resolved, That in death of our beloved brother, this class has lost an earnest Christian worker, a loyal supporter, and a true friend. “But we shall love him the same and have a little readier foot to climb the hill of life because we knew him and loved him.”
“He was a friend and brother to all. His long life was filled with good deeds which had a source in a loving heart. Individually we feel a personal loss, yet we, through faith, are willing to say, “Thy will be done.”
“He has gone. He has set sail. He will speak no more. Let us all tighten the girdle and reach for, the trumpet he has lain aside, and let us march forward to victory under the banner of a crucified and risen Lord who is able to take away the sin of the world.”
“Resolved, That a copy of these resolutions be spread upon minutes of the Fraternal Bible Class and that a copy be sent to the family of the deceased, and to each of the city papers.

Ret. Air Force Col. John H. Casper sent me this photo, which although has info printed on the back, is different than the standard NASA litho. For one thing, it's 8-1/2 by 11, not 8 by 10, and it has the look as though it was run off a printer.
Selected by NASA in May 1984, Casper became an astronaut in June 1985. A veteran of four spaceflights, he has logged over 825 hours in space. He was the pilot on STS-36 (1990) and spacecraft commander on missions STS-54 (1993), STS-62 (1994) and STS-77 (1996). His technical assignments while at the Astronaut Office included: Chief of the Operations Development branch; lead for improvements to the nosewheel steering, brakes, tires and development of a landing drag chute; astronaut team leader for the Shuttle Avionics Integration Laboratory (SAIL) and ascent/entry Capsule Communicator (CAPCOM) in the Mission Control Center.
Following his last shuttle mission, Casper has served in positions of increasing responsibility at NASA. Casper was Director of Safety, Reliability, and Quality Assurance at the Johnson Space Center (JSC), where he was responsible for all safety, reliability and quality activities for JSC's human spaceflight programs, including the International Space Station, the Space Shuttle, Space Launch Initiative and Crew Return Vehicles. He also was responsible for planning, directing and implementing an effective institutional safety program to prevent injuries, loss of life or loss of capital assets.
After the Columbia accident in February 2003, Casper became the NASA Mishap Investigation Team's Deputy for the Columbia debris recovery operation, which involved directing the efforts of more than 6,000 ground, air and water search personnel as well as protection and impoundment of debris. He was Co-Chair of the Return-To-Flight Planning Team, a NASA Headquarters chartered independent team charged with addressing all actions necessary to comply with the Columbia Accident Investigation Board recommendations. He then joined the Space Shuttle Program and became Manager of the Management Integration and Planning Office and, later, Associate Manager of the Space Shuttle Program. As of August 2012 he is currently with the Orion Program as Special Assistant for Program Integration.
STS-36 launched from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, on February 28, 1990, aboard space shuttle Atlantis. This mission carried classified Department of Defense payloads and was unique in that it flew at 62 degrees inclination, the highest inclination flown to date by the U.S. human spaceflight program. After 72 orbits of the Earth, the STS-36 mission concluded with a lakebed landing at Edwards Air Force Base, California, on March 4, 1990, after traveling 1.87 million miles. Mission duration was 106 hours, 19 minutes and 43 seconds.
STS-54 (January 13 to January 19, 1993) launched from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, on January 13, 1993, aboard space shuttle Endeavour. A crew of five successfully accomplished the primary objectives of this six-day mission, including deploying a $200 million NASA Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS-F) satellite, which joined four other satellites to complete a national communications network supporting space shuttle and other low Earth orbit scientific satellites. A Diffuse X-Ray Spectrometer (DXS), carried in the payload bay, collected X-ray data to enable investigators to answer questions about the origin of X-rays in the Milky Way galaxy. A highly successful spacewalk resulted in many lessons learned that benefited the International Space Station assembly. The flight was also the first to shut down and restart a fuel cell in flight, successfully demonstrating another space station application. Casper landed Endeavour at the Kennedy Space Center on January 19, 1993, after 96 Earth orbits, covering over 2.5 million miles. Mission duration was 143 hours and 38 minutes.
STS-62 (March 4 to March 18, 1994) was a two-week microgravity research mission aboard space shuttle Columbia. Its primary payloads were the United States Microgravity Payload (USMP-2) and the Office of Aeronautics and Space Technology (OAST-2) payloads. These payloads included experiments to understand the process of semiconductor crystal growth, investigating the process of metal alloys as they solidify, studying materials at their critical points (where they exist as both a liquid and gas) and testing new technology for use on future spacecraft, such as advanced solar arrays, radiators, heat sinks and radiation shielding. The flight also tested new technology for aligning the Remote Manipulator System arm and grasping payloads with a new magnetic end effector. Columbia flew at a record low altitude of 195 km (105 nautical miles) to gather data on spacecraft glow and erosion caused by atomic oxygen and nitrogen molecules. Casper landed Columbia at the Kennedy Space Center after 224 Earth orbits and 5.82 million miles.
STS-77 (May 19 to May 29, 1996) was a ten-day mission aboard space shuttle Endeavour. The crew performed a record number of rendezvous sequences (one with a SPARTAN satellite and three with a deployed Satellite Test Unit) and approximately 21 hours of formation flying in close proximity of the satellites. During the flight, the crew also conducted 12 materials processing, fluid physics and biotechnology experiments in a Spacehab Module. STS-77 deployed and retrieved a SPARTAN satellite, which carried the Inflatable Antenna Experiment that was designed to test the concept of large, inflatable space structures. A small Satellite Test Unit was also deployed to test the concept of self-stabilization by using aerodynamic forces and magnetic damping. Casper brought Endeavour back to Earth at the Kennedy Space Center after 160 Earth orbits and 4.1 million miles. Mission duration was 240 hours and 39 minutes.
