On their migration south stopping at Isle Lake. Interesting fact that the Bonaparte's Gull is the only gull that regularly nests in trees.
By no means a rare bird here in New Zealand but a more characterful bird you could not wish to find, a real favourite!
One of my favourite birds which is just as well as these are about the only ones I'm getting the chance of at the moment!
Yesterday 100s of thousands of women marched in all kids of weather for love and goodness. I marched last year but wasn't able to this year. This image of the gulls playing together (at least that is what it looked like) makes me hope that some day, our leaders will learn to play together. We can always have hope:)

A bit late to the party with this posting, but seeing this rare bird in such excellent weather was a fantastic experience.

Gulls sitting on the dock of a Savannah river, very aware of personal space. Painting texture added.
Unlike most terns, the Gull-billed Tern has a broad diet and does not depend on fish. Instead it commonly feeds on insects, small crabs, and other prey snatched from the ground, air, or even bushes. It is also known to eat small chicks of other tern species.
Taken at Newmillerdam. I think this is a black-headed gull in its winter colours though I may be wrong.
Red-billed Gull is endemic to New Zealand and the most common Gull. Other names: silver gull, tarāpunga, tarapunga, akiaki
Ring-billed Gull (Larus delawarensis) paired up in early spring and waiting for ideal conditions, to begin nesting, meanwhile spending time on the remaining ice in Hawrelak Park in the North Saskatchewan River valley in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
