Gullfoss "Golden Falls" is a waterfall located in the canyon of Hvítá river in southwest Iceland. The river plunges in two stages (11 m and 21 m) into a crevice 32 m deep. The crevice, about 20 m wide, and 2.5 km in length, extends perpendicular to the flow of the river. The average amount of water running over this waterfall is 140 m³/s in the summertime and 80 m³/s in the wintertime. The highest flood measured was 2000 m³/s.
Gullfoss er þekktasti foss Íslands og jafnframt ein mesta náttúruperla sem fyrirfinnst á Íslandi. Fossinn, sem er 32 metra hár, steypist ofan í stórbrotið og hrikalegt gljúfur sem er allt að 70 m á hæð. Árlega koma tugþúsundir ferðamenna að fossinum og njóta náttúrufegurðar hans og er öll aðstaða fyrir þá eins og best verður á kosið.

Gullfoss means golden waterfall. If it were not raining, we might see a rainbow in the mist coming back up.
Got married 3rd of Mars! After the wedding, which was just wonderful - full of joy and happiness, we went on a small honeymoon. We rented a summerhouse in Brekkuskógur and had splendid time there. One of the things we did was taking a drive to Gullfoss, big famous waterfall. It's a beautiful waterfall, especially in the winter time when there is ice and snow all around.

Don't know why every tourist comes there, this is far from the best waterfall you can see in Iceland...
