Welcome to Golden Circle: Gullfoss. One of the most photographed waterfalls in Iceland ... crowned by hordes of tourists ... imagine it in a sunny day with a huge rainbow! That is Gullfoss, the golden waterfall! The first jump is 11 meters and the second of 21m, but due to the narrowness of the canyon seems that precipitates for a height much greater.

Gullfoss is a massive waterfalls in the “Golden Circle” east of Reykjavik. The day we were there, it seemed that every thing was frozen. The flow was very small. The lower level where you can get closer to the waterfalls was close due to icy stairs. Later on, we saw something quite rare, at least for us, the moon at the East and the Sun at the West above the horizon…it was pretty cool to see. I got to tried my in camera double exposure where I shot the moon with my longest zoom and then the waterfall at the widest end. Near by is Strokkur is where you can see Geysir, a medium size geyser that would explode every 8 to 12 minutes and sometimes a double explosion a big one followed by a smaller one. .
Another image of the fantastic waterfall at Gullfoss in Iceland. A relatively quiet moment without any other visitors around.
Gullfoss, Golden Falls, is a waterfall located in the canyon of the Hvítá river in southwest Iceland.
Gullfoss is part of the Golden Circle tour, located approximately 80 miles from Reykjavik on the Hvítá (White) river which is fed by Iceland´s second biggest glacier, the Langjökull. The water falls 32 meters in two stages.
The same viewing platform is on the top right of each shot.

Looking down on the massive waterfall called Gullfoss in Iceland. It is really hard to express just how impressive this place is ( plus loud, wet & cold!)

The waterfall Gullfoss, the most famous waterfall in Iceland. Read about it here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gullfoss
Biskupstungur, Iceland. 20.07.2014.
Gullfoss is a huge waterfall in Iceland. A bit like Kimberly, really really tall and really really wide - plunging dramatically over the final dop into a deep rift - you can't see the bottom for continuous spray. Pretty much impossible to get a decent vantage point to show the whole fall as access is now restricted. This view is looking down into the rift from the closest point on the path.
Continuing my cross-section of Iceland, this time, it's a waterfall's turn.
Shown is the Gullfoss, or rather, the first of its two cascades, being 11 m high. See the people on the left side for a size reference. While being there, we were blessed with sunshine, and a great rainbow.
The second part of the cascades will be shown later, it's quite impressive as well, as you can see with numerous pictures on flickr.
Gullfoss is part of the Golden Circle (like Þingvellir and Geysir) and as such easily accessible even from Reykjavik.
This picture was taken with the Nikkor 16-85/3.5-5.6 on my D300, mounted on a tripod. This way, I could take medium times without shaking, while long exposure times in conjunction with powerful waterfalls often takes away the, well, power of it. :) So, what you see here is 1/15 s.
If you are interested, feel free to check out my whole Iceland set at my homepage, or rather the current state it is in. My favorites from there will get here onto flickr. Yes, I take proposals. :)

The Golden Waterfalls (Gullfoss) are situated in the upper part of River Hvita. The water cascades down two steps, one 11m high, and the other 22m, into the 2.5 km long canyon below. This is a shot of the upper falls.
Looks best on black.
