This evening I came to Juhu Beach.. 4Nov 2008 to shoot the Chhat Puja , and this was Chhat Puja with a difference, battaliions of Rapid Action Force , men in khaki and fine tuned security at display , to prevent any untoward action..with the recent spate of hate for the North Indians in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra.
Chhat Puja has really been politicised, but the spirtit of Chhat Mata prevails, there is genuine love for the Sun God not just by the Biharis but other communities , Gujratis and Maharashtrians too...
I met Mr Sanjay Nirupam, here at the Chhat Puja he was not a politician , but a devotee of Chatt Mataji, crowds followed him, photographers left no stone unturned to shoot him, as he made prerparations for the Puja on the beach..His family and the pride of place his mother who was leading from the front..taking the vows and doing the rituals..
Yes Mr Sanjay Nirupam the pioneer of this event on Mumbai shores...I was lucky that a brother photographer shot me with him..I gave my camera to a pony tailed bearded Lenin like photo jorno who refused to shoot me with him..
Its tough being a photo blogger among a bunch of hyeanas of the elitist Press of India.
Well I shot a lot of pictures , I did not shoot the political bigwigs or the honchos who tropped in with their bodyguards.
I shot the common man and the common woman of India reliving the nostalgia and the glory of Bihar..
Bihar that is religious site for Buddhists too..
Bihar that is justifiably an important part of an Indian heart - migrants living in Amchi Mumbai..peacefully..the only show of strength was the strength of our religiosity , our diverse culture coming to terms with national unity.

Στην ανατολικό τμήμα της σημερινής Πολιτείας και συγκεκριμένα στις κοιλάδες των ποταμών Σαμπαρμάτι και Μάχι αποκαλύφθηκαν οικισμοί της λίθινης εποχής. Η απαρχή της ιστορικής περιόδου φαίνεται έτσι να συνδέεται με τον πολιτισμό Χάραπαν που αναπτύχθηκε στην κοιλάδα του Ινδού, που άκμασε την 3η και 2η χιλιετία π.Χ.
Η καθ΄ αυτού όμως ιστορική περίοδος αρχίζει από τη εποχή της κυριαρχίας της δυναστείας Μαουρυάν, όπως αυτό αποδεικνύεται από τα εγχάρακτα διατάγματα του αυτοκράτορα Ασόκα (250 π.Χ.) στους λόφους Γκινάρ, στη χερσόνησο Σαουράστρα.
Την δυναστεία Μαουρυάν διαδέχθηκε η κυριαρχία των Σάκας (130 – 390 μ.Χ.).
Περί τον 4ο – 5ο αιώνα η περιοχή αποτέλεσε τμήμα της αυτοκρατορίας των Γκούπτα. Στους επόμενους τρεις αιώνες η περιοχή περιήλθε στη δυναστεία Μαϊτράκα του Βασιλείου Βαλαμπί. Την εποχή εκείνη η παράλια πόλη Βαλαμπίπουρα, στη χερσόνησο Σαουράστρα, πρωτεύουσα της περιοχής εξελίχθηκε σε σπουδαίο κέντρο διδασκαλίας του Βουδισμού, του Βεδισμού και του Ζαϊνισμού.
Κατά τον 8ο – 9ο αιώνα τη δυναστεία Μαϊτράκα διαδέχθηκε η δυναστεία Γκουρτζάρα – Πρατιχάρα από την οποία οφείλεται και το σημερινό όνομα της περιοχής, ενώ λίγο αργότερα ακολούθησε η δυναστεία Σολάνκι, όπου την εποχή αυτή σημειώνεται σπουδαία οικονομική και πολιτιστική άνθιση την οποία και επιβουλεύτηκαν οι Μουσουλμάνοι οι οποίοι και την κατέλαβαν το 1298.
Το 1411 ο Αχμάντ Α΄ αναλαμβάνει πρώτος Σουλτάνος της Γκουτζαράτ και ιδρύει την Αχμενταμπάντ.
Από τον 16ο μέχρι τα μέσα του 18ου αιώνα την περιοχή εξουσιάζουν οι Μογγόλοι τους οποίους διαδέχθηκαν οι Μαράθα.
Το 1818 η Βρετανική Εταιρεία Ανατολικών Ινδιών περιέλαβε στη διοίκησή της και την περιοχή της Γκουτζαράτ. Μετά την επανάσταση του 1858 που ακολούθησε, η Γκουτζαράτ αποτέλεσε επίσημη επαρχία του Βρετανικού Στέμματος χωριζόμενη σε επιμέρους μικρά πριγκιπάτα. Το 1947 με την ανεξαρτησία της Ινδίας όλη η περιοχή της Γκουτζαράτ εκτός από δύο περιοχές κρατίδια, Κουτς και Σαουράστρα ενσωματώθηκε στη Πολιτεία της Βομβάης. Το 1958 ενσωματώθηκαν και οι δύο παραπάνω περιοχές.
Το 1960 η Πολιτεία της Βομβάης διχοτομήθηκε στη σημερινή Πολιτεία Γκουτζαράτ και στην υπόλοιπη που μετονομάστηκε Μαχαράστρα.
